    Hempy Bucket Discussion! Pros Welcome!

    Well well well,

I'm back at Cann.com momentarily while school has calmed down for the Holidays. Christmas break is ever nearing for me and I hope that all of you are encountering good karma around these cheery times.

The reason I haven't been around much lately is because I have been undoubtedly swamped with academic, professional, and relationship commitments of which have not allowed me much time to enjoy chiming in on fun discussions.

But enough about me, let's get DOWN TO BUSINESS!

Lately around my area, there has been much discussion over who's Hempy bucket set up is better and who's nutrients are quote unquote "better" for this style of growing.

I have just recently stumbled upon this fantastic article that introduces the newb to what a Hempy Bucket is and they, advertised their own preferred nutrient bundle as well.

Read the short article here: theFreshScent » Blog Archive » Grow: The Hempy Buckets Technique

Now, my question is, what do you guys prefer to use when it comes to Hempy's?

My objective behind this discussion is to get people who know what they're talking about to discuss the pros and cons of their favorite (and potentially their least favorite) Nutrient Bundles.

    Regards Cann Com,

    SMG out :hippy:

I would like to see what experienced people post for their feeding schedule, and not so much the strength/ppm but how many times a day they feed, I've gotten acouple answers but I'd like as many as possible.

what do the 'hempy buckets' classify as.. not hydro and not soil.. a confusing middle ground that i am going to try with one of the new seeds i just dropped.. will post pics and what i think as it happens..
    now for a question..
could i start the seeds right in the perlite after they show a root?? or do i have to use the rockwool? (i dont have the wool!) but i DO have perlite and lots of it..

At the greenhouse that I work at, we usually use all vermiculite to sprout cuttings and the like. So, what I can imagine is that if you only have perlite, the rockwool cube simply acts as a larger solid base for the plant to take root in so it is more stable. I'm sure the rockwool cube also helps keep the seed better hydrated during early growth stages. If you have any vermiculite, or know where to get some, that would be best if you don't have rockwool. However, if you do plant in all perlite straight away, you may want to have your drainage hole cut a little higher than 2 inches for the first week or so and a low wattage bulb to encourage more root growth rather than vertical growth. I've seen plants grow in all sorts of crazy mediums. I'm sure it will work, just pay attention to humidity, temp, pH, and water availability to the seedling. If you have a dripper, then you're good to go.

    Good luck

Id love a simiple brake down of how to start out with one. I really never heard of them till i started reading here, but i have only used soil, so i havent figured it out yet. I hope to gain some input with this thread. Shake had one going, but he ended up putting them in soil. I think the roots got away from him, but not for sure:hippy:

    Hempy Bucket Discussion! Pros Welcome!

I am new to growing, I started a bigbud from ministry of cannabis in a bubbler. Complete nightmare as I found out latter how important res temps were and could not keep it under 75 degrees. When electric went out for thirty hours, I cut all the slime out of the roots and went coco/perlite. I had good success but had trouble maintaining ph and ppm(salt build up I guess). Also I was afraid to feed them a lot and did a lot of panic flushing. I saw my brother's bubblers grow a lot faster then my "not nuted that much" plants. You have to be very knowledgeable to maximize growth in coco to get bubbler results. Enter hempy buckets. ohhh, my plants from coco. 5 alaskan ice 3 to bud, 1 died, 1 was Super lemon haze(lol it was supposed to be an alaskan ice) all best people have had. 1 white rhino. the people who liked it would kill for it. . Cheese. Was just that, I swear, fing cheese. lol. So coco is easy and low maintainance, but will lose yield if you don't feed the crap out of them.

When I read the hempy bucket doesn't have the res temp problems the bubbler has, I was interested. Now my third go is with hempy buckets and they are keeping up with my brother's bubblers. I now have the care free style of coco and the vigorous growth of a bubble bucket.

    Now listen to this!
I put down 5 arjan's haze 3, all rooted of course. I vegged them for 4 weeks in coco/perlite, after the 2 week rooting stage. I then transplanted 4 of the 5 into hempy like buckets in that I got the 2 gallon buckets from walmart for under 2 bucks each and put 2 little holes 1/4", 2" up on the bucket, now instead of mix the hempy's vermiculite/perlite medium, I filled the first 3 inches of the bucket so the perlite (bigger sized) goes 1 inch above the hole 2" up on the bucket. I did this to create a permanent 1" air space between the water well and the medium. the rest of the bucket I filled with coco/perlite, 85%/15% respectively. 6 weeks into a twelve week flower and they smell like candy not weed. And they are robust and with me not being able to keep my hands off them, are trained well and many buds are getting light they normally wouldn't get. I also kept 1 in a 2 gallon coco/perlite for true comparison.

The verdict? My hempy bucket plants are as big as my brother's bubblers. Throw your pots away folks, hempy buckets are nearly dummy proof, let me explain...

out of the 4 in hempy's, I gave my brother in law 1. With the tap water we have, 9ml of coco a/b, 10ml cal/mag, makes the ph between 5.7 and 6.0. I told him to make nutes that way every third feeding. the schedule I got him on is this. feed, skip a day, water, skip a day, water, skip a day and feed again. I told him on the days that he waters, he must put 2ml of ph down to ph the water since there are no nutes to lower ph. His plant is utterly perfect, I can't find one blemmish on any leaf, other then the lower under the canopy leaves. Mine of course has marks all over the plant, leaving my trail of experimentation all over the leaves, including over ferted burnt tips(just tips though ) brown spots from feeding twice in a row instead of watering. drove disolved salts and ph through the roof and began locking out calcium I think. Fixed it quickly though. Why I don't follow the schedule I gave him is beyond me, but he is proof of the stability and ease of the hempy bucket. Just don't veg in them unless you want trees. lol. or less veg time.
So, if your new to growing, hempy will make you look like a pro. When you learn as you grow, you can then try different methods. But you would be foolish to overlook this passive hydroponic method. novice or seasoned grower. It's passive cause the 2" well act as a bubbler and the perlite replaces the need for an air pump.

Oh and the recommended medium composition for the hempy bucket is 75% vermiculite, 25% perlite I think. And you fill the whole bucket with it, not like I did with the 3 inches of big sized perlite. The perlite I used to cut the coco or vermiculite is the smaller sized perlite. The big ones are like the size of hydroton. the smaller ones are the size of rock salt say.

I'll try to answer any questions if I can about hempy.
