WTF is THIS?!?
so i finally did a few things..
looked at a bunch of rootbound rootballs
found the soil bone dry
and transplanted..
now for the question..
what is this and how bad is it?
the rest of the rootballs looked like the last pic so i have to assume it was because it was in a clear milk jug??

transplanting into a regular pot should kill off the alga?..mold?...either way...I don't think it will hurt anything?...may even help?

yup, algae  ... good call, DP ... wonder if a shot of H2O2 would work ok in soil, to stop the algae growth ? (replacement of microbiotics, bacteria, with something like Fox Farm Big Bloom, would be needed, of course) ... not sure on that one

WTF is THIS?!?
but wouldnt that kill my soil too??
from what i have read, seen and learned i have living soil and if i kill it the plants would lose their way of getting the nutrients that they need.
correct me if i am wrong please.

You might be able to trim that little bit off if you're transplanting, & I don't know about the h2o2 killing the soil/roots, never used peroxide myself.

The algae needs light to grow. Put them in a light-proof container, the problem goes away on it's own.
