i always thought of record play and stop to be transport controls. The interface transport contains these controls in protools.

3) A split console uses seperate modules for inputs and outputs (as opposed to an In-Line console). I think the GL4000 is a split console, because I know each track has a direct output. Not 100% certain, but I seem to recall this.
4) I have no idea what this question is asking.
Hope that sort of helps a little. Good luck anyway!

5.PFL is different from AFL in what way? Where is signal derived and where is it routed?

PFL and AFL are solo functions (pre-fade and after-fade). With PFL, you hear the original signal regardless of how the fader is set. The AFL function depends on fader setting. So AFL is routed to the fader buss, whereas PFL is routed directly to the output, bypassing the faders (my terminology may be different from the class').
I don't know about that 24/25 channel question. The mixer I used only had 24 channels.
