My Hermies
I"ve gotten zero response to my two mega-hermied plants in my grow logs.
Here are photos of my (4) Z11 at 39 days bloom cycle. First two are the hermies, then an indica dominant and a sativa dominant. I will finish all the plants as I'm interested in smoking the product and there really isn't anything that will be 'ruined' if it spreads a hermie seed or two. I already pollenated all the plants with Neville's Haze so I will have to select the sativa phenos at the seedling stage.
I've had the odd seed show up in buds in the past and I nver saw the male stamen during growth. Then I started to look closer and I see that they often grow out from underneath the female calyxes. These male flowers do not look like the typical hanging fruit with the banana stamen inside, they are smaller and much less developed.

Thanks for postin' this up.

I had an outdoor grow this year with no males within miles. Out of 4 plants, I got one seed, but it was big, fat and dark! So I saved it.
I think this does happen, but is still an anomoly.

Two plants with mad hermies. It seems that the male parts are not fertile as there's no seed develpement near the hermie sites. I did pollenate all these plants with NH and there are some seeds ripening. I'll have to be watchfull when growing out the seedlings. For now I think I'll cut out some of the heavy stamen growth.
LOOK at them 'nanas!

Certainly do look strange Shov, I've had hermies before, but never anything like that.

I had a hermie last grow and just pulled the bananas as i found them. It was full of seeds and its neighbor (fem) only had a handfull of seeds at harvest.
Does anyone know if these seeds will be likely to produce more hermies? Would the hermie's seeds be more likely to produce hermies than the fem. that was pollinated by the hermie? I really like the strain and plan to use the seeds I saved. They were nice looking, dark and striped. I just don't want to end up with a room full of hermies...

From my experience you have a 50/50 chance of hermies. You also could end up with some awesome new genotype.....in a second.
That may be what is called intersexual, not a true herme. Cervantes addressed that in his book somewhere. The above pictures look like a plant that got pollenated all at one time.
Coming back to the is the seed a hermie. Maybe. Maybe not. I have used hermie pollen to pollenate other plants with success and 30% did become hermie. The long term result was a few really neat, different crosses. I ended up with a set of crosses I call Washougal Wonder, RMT, and WidowII. The Washougal Wonder is my avatar. It wanted to herme every time so I finally gave up on it, but it was good. The RMT is a cross between the Washougal Wonder and a plant called MediBud(it was garbage). That was also a big time hermie, but I pollenated a White Rhino with the that and came up with RMT. The plant is sativa dominate and kicks better than rhino. Both are very stable, take stress without hermieing, 8 weeks to harvest.
The Widow II is interesting as I have no idea where the pollen came from. I was not having hermie problems at the time. But being I found a seed in the White Widow, I grew it. Neat plant. VERY indica dominate. Bushy unlike the White Widow I have. Smells similar. Great medical effect. Stable. It is a great SOG plant....which I don't do.
So to make a long post summary, yeah, it could be interesting to see what the seed grows into.

I meant to mention also that sometimes, somehow, pollen gets in. My plants have been happy campers since summer heat went away and the rains started. But, two of my plants presented me with a single seed.
I freaked and checked all the plants closely, and I don't see any more seeds or and nut sacks.
What had occurred tho, was I had been at an acquaintances house and he got his weed somewhere else. I must have gotten enough pollen on me to get it to my plant room....or it was airborne.
It happens. So I have two more seeds to sprout and see what special qualities we have this time.....one from a white widow, one from a strawberry cough.
:thumbsup::jointsmile:
Now you see where the 'wonder' comes from....wonder where it came from.
