O.K. to flower with BOTH HPS & MH?

I started with just a 1000 MH for both phases, but when I could afford it, I replaced it with (2) 600 HPS for flower and a 400 MH for vegging. Now I am wondering if I shouldn't just go ahead and add the 1000 MH back in the flowering room.

Here's the crux of the matter. Is it ok to flower with both MH and HPS at the same time?

I don't really need it for vegging. It made big buds when it was the only light I had. Check out these beginnings from the MH only.

O.K. to flower with BOTH HPS & MH?

i was reading other threads and SensiSkunk says that using both the warm and cool spectrums of both lights combinded more closely reproduces the suns light. Basically said it was better to use both. Do others concur or have info references?

if you can deal with the extra heat and a slightly higher electric bill,i would use them,i don't know if you saw them yet but they are manufacturing combo unit's now too, they'll probably be the newest rage, nice shot's of you're havest....bonbon http://www.altgarden.com/site/lights...superspec.html

bonbon... Excellent idea on the dual system, I hope everyone who hasn't seen this idea will click the link. I can definitely see it catching on quick.

Just got a couple of new strains, Train Wreck (which looks great, tastes great, and will numb your brain) and Purple Mist (which I have not tried). They are vegging now, but barring any dire warnings from others I will be planning to go ahead and add the 1000 MH to the (2) 600 HPS in a couple of weeks. I will be posting pictures of the results along the way. Hoping for big results.

Those other pics are from my first two goes. Not a bad start, but always trying to improve. I have upgraded with over $2500 in improvements, including air cooled hoods, so the extra heat should not be a prob. Entire room replenished in just over a minute with exhuast fan.

Hope you will share more insights down the road!

you definitely should add the 2*600 hps along with the 1000 halide for ur flowering room, i previously had 2*1000 hps and the monthly bill was runnin bout 50-60 dollars US, but i also had hundreds of plants. If you have the funds to keep up with the elec bill, you should combine, it will increase the amount of trichomes because of combining the two spectrums and it will help bring out the alternate colors of the bud! Ive heard that the combination ballast of the hps and mh was more likely to short out on you because of the distribution of the power. just get two seperate ballasts, to be safe! GOod luck man!

sensiskunk.... thanks for the post. I'm encouraged to hear more positive feedback about combining the HPS and MH. I actually started with the MH and then switched to the 2 HPS lights, but when considering getting a 3rd and 4th HPS I decided to find out about putting the MH back to work with the others instead. Sounds like a good idea so far based on what I found in your other post to be pretty sound advice. Look for Pics down the road from me and some first hand info on the change.

Always ready to receive help. Keep the insights coming.

Does anyone have any firsthand (or even secondhand for that matter) experience or information about using both the MH & HPS lights in the flowering room to get a fuller spectrum?

Am I out in the frontier here? Helllllloooooooo....
