Please!!! Need help with first grow!!! Plants are starting to turn yellow and die!!!

Could somene please help me with these plants? They are 4-5 weeks into veg stage and starting to turn yellow around the tips and even beginning to die in spots. I am using 20% perlite mixed with promix and using iguana juice grow and piranha. I am currently mixing 1.2tsp per gallon of h2o. They were beginning to yellow on the sunleaves and now they are worse and beginning to dry/die. It is mostly on these leaves but it now looks as if others are beginning to dry. Pics are provided below. Thanks. I wanted to c what you "experts" think before i get too drastical. I am running out to c if i can find any strips. Dont want to wait on shipping and all stores are seasonal for up to an hour from here. Going to begin by flushing the plants if the runoff is high. thanks.

It looks like calcium and magnesium def...fill out the trouble shooting form...and people will be able to help disagnose for you.

I agree with martyprojeckt, looks like cal/mag deficiency as a best guess at this point. Some yellowing of fans is normal as the plant grows, too-especially during final flush when you're getting the plant to burn up stored food.

I'd lose the peroxide unless you're in hydro, and then only if you need it. In soil it won't do anything for you except kill your beneficial organisms and lower your pH a bit. (pH lockouts can prevent uptake of cal/mag even if it's in the soil; I've seen that look like your pics, too.)

I just got done flushing my plant as the ph was waaaay high and was wondering if ou could answer the following four questions.... After flushing the soil is now neutral @ 7ph.

I added the iguana juice grow to 6.3ph adjusted water and tested it and it was still around 6.3ph. At time of last flush I ran a half gallon of water adjusted (@ 6.3ph) and 1/2 strength of IJGrow (nutrients +h2o=6.3). At this time the runoff measured around 6.7.

Does everything seem to be on track as far as- "do i have the right idea of how i am doing the adjusting?" The soil before i flushed was around 8.5ph....I assume that the high ph was causing browning/curling up/yellowing of sun leaves and not the mixture that I was giving them?


I have been on a 24/7 lighting and following the chart on the website for feeding with iguana juice grow and piranha; however, I didn't add the piranha to the final flush. will it be okay to place this plant back in the veg room under 600w lights?

I hate to sound like a dummy but what is peroxide??? Like the stuff for cuts??? Not being a smartass just confused....is piranha like a peroxide??? :jointsmile:

Sorry--my mistake.

I got this thread cornfused with another one. In that OTHER thread somebody was adding hydrogen peroxide (yes, the stuff you put on cuts--H2O2) to their soil mix. Although potentially useful as a short-term disinfectant in hydro, it's not generally recommended to add peroxide to soil. So, forget I said anything. :stoned: I'm not familiar with either of the additives you are using, but I doubt seriously if Pirhana has anything to do with peroxide.

Yes, at least that's about how I do it. If you're putting in water at, say, pH 7.0 and your runoff is 6.5, for example, you can assume your medium is somewhere BELOW 6.5. The runoff's kinda like an average between your ingoing solution, and what the pH of the soil/mix is doing to that solution.

Be sure to check/fine tune your pH AFTER all the ferts and additives have been added. Usually they have an effect on pH.
