Sounds like fungus gnats. Little buggers love damp soil and warm temps.

See if you can change those two factors. Let it dry out, and try to cool the root mass a bit.

If it becomes a serious problem, which normally with certain control methods it doesn't.. but if it does, there are larvacides that you can use. One in particular is call Vectobac. It's an agricultural larvacide that they use to control black fly and mosquito populations.

Also, make sure there is no standing water in the room (you should never store water in the room) and make sure there is as little dead debris in the room as possible.
