help with setting up HPS light and ballast

Buying components that have to be assembled is doing it the hard way, and is risky...IMO.

I recommend buying a package deal online; that includes complete ballast, cords, sockets, reflector and bulb.
Google: 'grow light systems' and shop around...

help with setting up HPS light and ballast

    Good advice^^^^

You know a capacitor will store a charge and can still give you a lethal shock even if it's "unplugged," right?

Buy a commercially produced ballast. If you want to you can always sell it later (which you can't easily do with a homebrew stuff).

This is not the type of equipment to learn on.

    Stay safe,

    AC/DC Hermie
