Root Trimming on in Rockwool
I have a few youngsters - about 3 weeks from seed - whose roots are starting to storm through the bottom of the 1" RW cube. My goal is to keep them in the 1" for as long as possible then move them into 4"x4" cubes.
To do this, is it safe to trim the roots as they poke through the bottom of the 1"?

trimming of roots, unless unhealthy, is nothing I have ever heard of doing and personally dont think I would try it as I think you would be causing lots of stress which the plant doesnt need.
If you have something productive to say by all means speak up, if not then please close the hole under your nose.

Please do not trim. Leaving them out of a good system is not good either. Been there done that. Have extra's now that i was trying to save for the next round but I don't think they will make it.
Once those roots start to come out they must be dealt with soon. If they start to dry and they will, the clones are stunted and take a long time to recover if at all.
Oh good idea. I am going to get mine in a bubble cloner I have with just neoprene collars so they can grow and still be good to go into netpots when needed. This will save me so much time.
Thanks you for making me think about this problem. Got to go now.

you could slow them down in the 4x4's if need by running a lower strength on the nutes until ready to really get some growth
