I'm in a somewhat confusing situation at the moment, and wondered if anybody could help tell me where I stand.

I used to smoke frequently, but money has been scarce recently, so for the past month I've pretty much been taking a hit or two off of a bowl every other day. On the 18th I was offered employment, and assumed testing would be part of the deal. I started chugging water (gallon + a day), and took a regimen of cleansing tablets. I figured that when I actually took the test, I'd try the strategy my girlfriend used to pass her test (she stopped for ONLY three days, chugged water, apparently took aspirin, and took vitamins to replenish her urine. This got a her a pharmacy job).

So, on the 29th, I went down to my prospective employer (which is actually a temp agency) to fill out some paperwork. I brought my water with me, along with vitamins to take. I (quite wrongly) assumed that I'd go down to a lab to take my test (thus giving me time to chug that aqua), but, right after I filled out my W2, the woman I was speaking to handed me a cup and asked me to provide a sample, which I did right then, not seeming to have many other options.

I'm almost certain I failed my drug test (it would be a miracle if I didn't). However, I've not heard anything back from them (this all occurred about 12 hours ago). The agency seems fairly small time (apparently it's just a husband and wife). The wife handed me a cup and I went down the hall to fill it, after which I handed it to the husband who headed into the bathroom with some sort of bag in his hand. Since their operation is so small, and since I pissed in-house (as opposed to going to the lab), I'm assuming they're testing it in-house, too. It doesn't seem to make sense that they would collect my piss and THEN send it off to a lab (although they could, I suppose). Therefore, I'm fairly certain I failed the test shortly after I left the premises.

This is where the confusion starts. The woman I spoke too confirmed I was hired before she even mentioned taking the test. The test was thrown in almost as an afterthought, after we had sorted out all the employment-related details. She didn't say anything along the lines of "Once we get your tests back, we'll let you know if you will be hired or not". She made it pretty clear that I had been hired. This raises a few questions, namely:

1) For the reasons listed above, I'm quite sure that they had the results in (which more than likely tested positive) shortly after I left the building. If I failed the test, wouldn't they call to tell me so? It seems somewhat un-business-like to confirm that I have the job, only to not let me now that I failed the test and actually DON'T have the job. I don't see why they would wait until I showed up at the place I was contracted to work (remember, I'm working for a temp agency), only to learn that I'm not actually supposed to be there. I suppose it's possible that they ARE sending the piss to a lab, but, if that's the case, why did they have me piss in the building, only to send it to someone else? I thought, generally, that establishments that drug test typically will send you to a lab to do the deed, wait for the results, and then let you know if you passed or not.

In summary, I'm somewhat sure I failed the test, and quite sure that they tested it right there. So why haven't they notified me? Did I somehow pass? Are they actually sending it off to a lab? Do they just assume I KNOW I failed, and expect me to wander off? I'm a confirmed employee of theirs, so it seems they would notify me if they had to terminate my employment.

I can't seem to face up to the facts. I'm tense and nervous, and I can't relax (due to giving up my favorite recreation). I can't just call up there and asked if I passed my test, so all I can do, really, is wait anxiously to hear something.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Any knowledge you can share will help me enormously.

Lastly, sorry for the long, rambling nature of this post. I took a big hit of some 40x salvia not too long ago and conversed with the machine elves, and I still feel a bit weird.
