I once had a problem where I was worried that one of my regular dealers was shorting me. I went down to the pawnshops with a friend, and got a decent scale for 80bux (at the time, new ones of the type were going for 200-300).

As it turned out, the person who I thought was selling short weight wasn't, but some of the other people I was dealing with were.

Now, no matter where I get it from (except the cannabis clubs in downtown TO), I weigh it, even if I've been dealing with the person for a long while. If it's on, no probs. If not, I let them know (everyone makes mistakes now and then)... they make up the dif the next time I buy.

I wouldn't know this if I didn't have a decent scale. You can get 'em now for like 30bux, or less...
