I think your tub that is down below is pretty darn big for the tray it is servicing. Unless you have 15 foot ceilings...you are cutting out like 3 ft. of vertical grow space.

lol, the hut is only 5ft tall x2ft deep x 4ft wide, how deep should my lower portion be?12-16" tall and longer? I would like to utilize most of the inside floor area as much as possible

i would go out and buy a low but wide profile rubbermaid container,use this as your rez and just sit the tray on top of it,drill too holes one for your feed and one for your return. do a half inch feed line and a 3/4 return.if u want cheap trays go to home depot and look into mortar mix trays.i use them for vegging cuttings.i have the moms in 2x2 botanicare tray set up the same way but its a top feed drip and the water just drains back into the rez it sits on.

IMO the 2'x4' tray should be your res., something smaller for the tray. You won't use the full 2'X4' at the base of the plants anyway, and you need an easy access to the res.

You won't get much of a lower profile than that.

Im confused, so you are saying that the top tray should be smaller than the bottom? Anybody else get this?

Maybe I'm missing something, but with the oriinal drawing, I don't see how you gain access to the res. Usually, isn't there an opening topside for monitoring purposes?

i see, hmm..... I wonder if I did a "drawer" type res(of course low pro and wider), could I still keep 2x4 top(if I put stilts/legs on it)?

in my veg room i run a huge rez with the trays on top.and i cannot open it with out removing the trays,a easy way around this is 2 buy a half inch grommet and a 1/2 inch on off valve.drill a hole in the center of the rez and whalaaa u have a sample port to take your readings,open it up and pour your sample into a glass,check your ph and tds right there,if u need to make corrections pour the addiditives into the tray and it will go right down into the rez:thumbsup:
