    1st grow, closet set up

Ok so I'm in California and recently got my doctor's reccomendation! I've decided to start up a grow to cut back on what I buy, hopefully altogether.

I'm going to be growing in my closet. The floorspace (about 22" x 27") is carpeted; is it ok to grow on carpets? Or should I put a piece of plywood or something over it? Alternately there is a shelf about 40" above the ground that is a bit smaller then the floor that I could extend slightly to bring it to the size of the floor space. There's about 40" more above the shelf, which can't be raised or lowered. Ultimately I'd like to use on space for vegging and one for fruiting, hopefully about 3-4 plants per. Does this sound feasable?

Because the way my closet is, I'm going to need to rig a ghetto door to block off my grow. Im thinking just cardboard or something. I'll cut holes in it for airflow and put a fan in the top corner of each chamber. Sounds good?

For lights I bought 4 40 watt, soft white CFLs and reflecting shades from Home Depot for all them. I also plan on lining the walls with mylar. Should two of these lights for each chamber be enough? I was reading that I should use something like 6400k lights for veg and 2700k fruiting. Is this necessary? I bought the lights before I saw that and they are all 2700k.

That's pretty much all the questions I got as far setting up my grow room goes. Thanks for reading! All input and advice welcomed and appreciated!

Congrats! Now you are one of the lucky few since the feds are supposedly going to stop hassling legal mmj users!

What I'm doing is use a large black garbage bag(or tarp) and tape it about an inch from the ground so it fully covers the bottom and can't leak out should you spill or something. The size of each chamber sounds good for about 2 plants each if flowered pretty soon after they show sex. Maybe make an 18" tall chamber for a mother and clones and cut that size off the veg since they should only get 2-2.5' before you throw them into flower. Don't forget about light leaks between the chamber because that can RUIN your harvest.

I think you will need more ventilation than that, but you really need to set it all up before you plant your first seed so you can fine tune everything. Check your temps on a dry run, a closed box with lights(even CFL) in it can get very hot. It should be in the 70's-low 80's ideally, cannabis can die over around 90 for too long.

The higher the K number, the whiter the light. 6500K is pretty much the highest you can get normally and they are a bit more expensive but worth it. These promote better branching and shorter internodes so you have more of a sturdy bush than a leggy stick. I'd get a few more lights(6500K, search 1000bulbs.com or something) and use the 4 you have for the flowering and the new ones for the veg & mother chambers

    Hope this helps :rastasmoke:

Thanks for the replies guys and tips guys!

I'm going to be starting from clones, should've mentioned that. Is it ok to have a mother that's a clone? Otherwise I'll switch to seeds after this first grow, just wanna get my feet wet.

I'll probably go pick up some more lights today and try and do test run of the temp in the room.

I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions, but boy this is fun already, haha.

A clone as a mother is perfectly fine if it's a 1st gen clone, maybe even 2nd. You want to stay away from anything that's 3 or more steps removed from seed as the genetics only carry so far without new material before they start weakening and mutating.

Just don't give up if you run into any snags along the grow, that's what the internet is for afterall. :rastasmoke:
