    Bagseed, first time CFL grow

Hello Canna members. This is my first thread and post on this fine forum, and hopefully I will contribute many more to come in the future.

So, I am involved in a first time CFL grow with some seeds I got in a bag of some skunky stuff about three years ago. We are very near the end of the grow and after having recently discovered this great forum, I felt like posting some pics I have taken over the grow period. The next grow I will do a better job of documentation and probably do a grow log thread. We will have some improvements on the grow area and the way the grow is done. We are both new to the cannabis green thumb thing and I think we have learned quite alot from the first attempt. I know I have learned alot from this forum as well in the last couple weeks.

The first thing I think we will change is the soil. This grow used MG potting soil that is supposed to feed for three months, so no nutes were added this grow. We also are going to step up to 42W CFLs instead of the 26W in now. Also, do some A/C duct work to try and help with heat. The avg. temp is probably around 80F...84ish when lights on and 75ish when off.

Here are some pics. While I am very happy with the apparently decent strain (I don't remember the stuff or how it was, but just wrote the word SKUNK and kept these seeds seperate from all my other bagseed seeds) I am somewhat disapointed with how they look and the yield. Also I am more just giving my seeds and 2 cent to this grow and not the actual grower. I think we have a good plan of attack to correct the issues for round two of the grow. If round two goes well a order to Hemp Depot for some Blue Widow just might have to be on the agenda.

Any feedback or insight would be appreciated.

That was quick, thank you. I have seen a couple HID set-ups before and so I am not sure what the optimal yield should be for CFL? There might be close to 3/4oz on each plant as they sit. My friend got a book that started this whole thing and the guy got 8oz with 42W bulbs on three plants and around appox 4,000 lumens per sq ft and we are around 2,500...so we are going to build a new rig and hopefully get closer to 5,000 lumens per. But even at 2,500 per I was expecting more yield so there are some other issues i think.

Here are some more pics. And we are in the 10th week of flowering and just started to see a few ambers on the plant to the right.

They look nice man. CFLs are sometimes the way to go. especially if you are limited on your room size or worried about heat. i use to use cfls for my few first grows. I had some pretty nice grows myself. if you aren't worried about heat or anything HPS is the way to go. more lumens per watt. that means more lumens to the plants over the given area. that mean larger tighter buds. I just love nice tight buds.

have fun growing man. i love it. screw tomatoe plants anyone can grow them. MJ is where its at. plus its rewarding.

    peace

Thanks. I personally have a 400W hps set-up that is not in use currently, and when I did use it the heat was a huge problem among others. Mabey when I have a better place to use it I will try again. Although I am very interested in the ability and stealth of the CFL set-up, and this set-up needs to be very stealth. I am hoping that under the right conditions that 3 plants might yield a combined 6oz under CFL.

On another note, I have a question that I will ask here first. Would to much Nitrogen in the soil at the late stages of flowering cause the tips of leaves to yellow and burn? I know that the lights have burned some of the leaves, but it's happening to leaves that should not be seeing excess heat or direct contact. No nutes were added, just what's in the MG soil and water PH testing.

nice. :greenthumb: i like the arched frames. yeah, maybe 42W's next time around and more. that was my problem with cfl, just not eneough in the final budding days.

i'm not sure about the yellowing problem on that one plant, you can really see the difference in pic 5 above. just general tips, good fans, mylar, and yes keep an eye on the nutes but it might be normal die off of the bigger fan leaves towards the end for the benefit of the the buds. one can hope eh? good luck, hang in there yellowing girl. :stoned:

Nothing there to be disappointed about.

Your first grow survived! (Quite nicely, I might add) Good job, I say!

Keep an extra close eye on those girls, I've seen a lot of long-flowering bagseed throw a random "nanner" at around the 10 week mark. :wtf:

    Good growin'
I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they\'d never expect it

LOL yellowing girl. The frame idea came from the book. I think next time we will use a cross style top frame and have the side lights come straight down from the ends of the cross. So what was your total cfl wattage used to yield? Thanks.

Ya I am real happy with the quality, it's just...seeing it siting there, I day dream about more quantity. The end goal for us is to try and get at least enough to get us through till the next harvest. Ya I guess this is all the soil alone had to give and it is just end of cycle old leaf. Thanks.

Ya we have been going back and forth about adding nutes for the past couple weeks. It's the first time with whatever this strain is and first time with the MG soil. So, we did not want to add nutes and then start seeing ambers a few days later. And we are very happy with what this first time around has accomplished. Practice makes perfect. I have tried before only to fail miserably, so nowhere to go but up. LOL, up in smoke preferably. Now in the 11th week and seeing a few ambers, I guess we will just ride it out and see what happens. Thanks.
