Just heard on the radio today that the town of Red Bluff, has passed an ordinance that prohibits the selling and growing of marijuana for medical use in direct violation of prop 215. If you live in Red Bluff, contact NORML, and see what you can do to get this unjust ordinance repealed.

Unjust? The town probably got sick of the increase in home invasions/robberies and then have the growers call the police for help. Hahaha how hilarious.
I remember reading about this couple that got robbed inside their home in the town I live in, they called the cops after the people left their house.
The cops showed up and realized there was still about in excess of 1000 plants, 3 seperate flowering rooms ect. A decent sized indoor setup in other words and they expected the cops to help them!?!? Instead they got arrested. That's kind of an extreme example.
I think these people that are for the "movement" and live in mendocino/humboldt/trinity/shasta counties need to realize what marijuana is doing around here. Not saying that all the growers are bad but I see so many that are in it purely for greed and money, things only go downhill once those 2 things get involved.
You don't think once it gets legalized that it wont be capitolized on by a handful of people shortly after? I don't know about you, but I fucking hate corporate bulshit and marijuana isn't gonna be anything different.

Why do you have to be greedy to grow Marijuana? Generalizations don't exist, man, any generalization is a lie. If legalized a plant would become a whore? I guess it would be cheaper, better quality, more creative consumption methods, no social stigma...

There will always be a few dispensaries for new or severely disabled patients, or when your crop gets wiped out, or maybe you're just a pot snob wanting a new flavor. But folks growing their own will end the "green gold rush". Supply and demand. Cannabis is way easier to produce than alcohol or vicodin!
Dispensaries are just a passing fad with an eventual small niche market.

I can agree with that, Storm Crow ... my view is, 'dispensaries' don't fit with the general populations' idea of legitimate commerce ... obviously, I'm all for users growing their own, and co-ops should be TEACHING people how to grow, not growing and supplying high-markup dispensaries ... I've said it a hundred times, and I'll repeat myself here: dispensaries were the worst idea in the world ! ... even the attorney that authored Prop. 215, came on 60 Minutes, and claimed it was BAD LAW, from beginning to end (and, he wrote it !) :wtf: ... dispensaries are only hurting the whole medical marijuana scenario ... read your local newspapers, (or the title of this thread), there are quite a few cities and counties, banning dispensaries, etc., this very day ! ... the 'marijuana laws pendulum', is unfortunately, swinging back the wrong way, and the public's opinion has lots to do with it ... people get pissed when they see some 'dispensary' busted, with $100,000 in cash, and a stash of guns ... my neighborhood WalMart does a lot more business than that, every day, but, they don't seem to need armed thugs guarding the door ... we came a long way, just to get Med MJ laws on the books, let's not piss it away, supporting greedhead drugdealers in storefronts ... regardless, happy gardening ! :smokin:

I really don't think growing your own will catch on enough to eliminate the dispensaries. It takes a lot of time, a lot of equipment, a dedicated space, and a lot of trial and error. Most people aren't gonna get serious with it and buy enough of the right equipment to make it worthwhile. I know that if I could go and buy cannabis from a store at a fair price, I would most likely stop growing my own.
However, I see both points being made. Cannabis is our number one cash crop and has been for 3 years running, so there's clearly money to be made. IMO, what it would take is for huge producers to start selling their crop for less money and undercutting everyone, to make everyone else have to come down in order to compete. I don't ever see this happening, so unfortunately we are stuck until quite a few people step up and decides to sell their product for cheap.
It is also bad for these towns where it is legal, as people are flocking to CA to cash in on the gold rush. I watched the documentary "The Union" and they talked about how there were "Grow Watches" being set up in communities to watch for growers because of the influx of people whose only goal is to grow weed and sell it, and have no interest in the community or anything. I feel like that kind of attitude that is going to be detrimental to the movement, by putting a greedy and negative face on such an amazing medicine and harmless recreational intoxicant and changing peoples' views on cannabis for the worse.
It also blows my mind to see these "compassionate" dispensaries in CA selling 1/8ths for $70 when it costs pennies to produce. I understand the need for profits, but nutes, water, and power included, I can produce a half pound for about $50 or so. You can sell a single ounce at $50 1/8th and octuple your operating costs. Sell a QP and you've likely covered your entire intial investment of lights, fans, building materials, etc. From there on out its more or less 100% profit. So how these people justify $70 for 1/8th - besides the hype behind having the fancy names and such - is beyond me, but I guess thats capitalism for you.
This is all why I will stick to growing my own and keep it for my wife and myself so I don't have to worry about any of the hassle involving money. Unless it comes to the point where I can go to the corner store and get some Grand Daddy Purple for $30 a 1/8th, then I just might hang up my HID and buy into the madness.
