Building grow cabinet Input needed (pics)
This is a first grow of mine. I've decided to start growing the stuff on my own. I have a detached building (formerly a billiards room) that I'm going to use to grow the green. I've done quite a bit of research in regards to lighting, air flow, and all the basics. Now I want to get it into the specifics as I gear up to build my box.
I have a formerly used work bench I've decided to use as the grow space.
The dimensions of the space are 33"H 63"L 27"D. I want to use split the space in sections, possibly two for two reasons.
1. To start small with one or two plants
2. To later use half for veg and half for flowering
Ventilation:
I do not want to ventilate from the top as that will look suspicious, I could possibly do this but I'd have to come up with something to sit on top of the bench to conceal the carbon filter I plan on installing. My goal is to ventilate from the back of the cabinet and cut a hole in the wall and run ducting up to the attic where the air will be released. Is this feasible? Necessary?
Lighting
I want to start with CFL and later move to HPS or LED (preferably). Using half the space I have 33"H31L"27D, how many CFL bulbs will I need? Roughly how much $$ per month can I expect to spend on added electricity?
Strand/Seeds
Since I've never grown before, I thought I'd start with Super Lemon Haze, winner of last year's Cannabis Cup. With the dimensions I have provided, will this strand properly grow in the restricted space I have? Is there a better strand I should use for LST growing in a limited space? How many plants should I grow in this space? One? Two?
As i said, this is my first time and any added input or suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks for the help.crimsonblake Reviewed by crimsonblake on . Building grow cabinet Input needed (pics) This is a first grow of mine. I've decided to start growing the stuff on my own. that looks like a pretty small space to have 2 chambers man.
if you end up hanging a hps fitting under that you wont have much head room left..
i use l.s.t but the colas still reach up....
if i was you id forget the workbench and line the back wall with mylar and build two sides and line them...
put a carbon filter on to a inline exhaust fan and put a vent on the outside of your outhouse... it wont look suspicious.. i know in europe all building regulations require outhouses to have a proper vent..
i friend of mine has his vent coming out at the back of a hanging basket for extra stealth
that way you wont be restricted in what seeds(indica/sative) u grow..
hope you get sorted..:rastasmoke:
here is a grow box i built when i started off. it worked well for a small set up, 2 chambers and a section for the timers and ballasts.. but it got too hot when i added a 400w hps...small boxes get very hot with the wrong lighting so choose wisley:thumbsup:

id reccomend covering the sides of that bench with some black and white poly (panda film) and using maybe 4-6 48" fluorescent tubes that will give you about 10,000 lumens of light and virtually no jump in electric bill ( ive got 6 tubes running 24/7 and my bill actually went down last month) you could veg maybe 6 indica plants in that space to about a foot tall or so.. it wouldnt be suitable for flowering tho....

I would say stand it up and use the bottom-open part for your door. Wall that beast off and white it out, BOOM...grow box. I recently went to my g/f's mums house and there was a fucking old wooden telephone booth there.......I almost just started a grow right there and then, lol.
