Although portability is not all that important to me, if there is no downside, I wouldn't mind using a portable at home. The Volcano is way too expensive, especially as I could buy an iolite and an SSV for less money. I've never used a vaporizer of any kind before, but after 35 years of smoking, I'm kind of tired of the nasty taste from smoking, so the concept appeals to me. I really can't spend more than 300.00USD, so it comes down to either a launch box and 'da Buddha (best of both worlds?), or an iolite alone, or a non-portable and a pipe for the rare occasion when I indulge away from home. I'd like to hear your recommendations re: the iolite vis-a-vis the launch box, and also the SSV vis-a-vis 'da Buddha (what do you get for your extra $100?).

I have owned four Vaporizers up to now.
I have owned the O2mini (crap)
A Chinese knockoff of the (Vapezilla) (ok)
The Launch Box (Great Stealth and extremely portable requires a Single AA rechargeable to power and can get for under $100 plus a lifetime warranty.
I also own the Arizer Extreme paid $250 shipped and is by far the best vape I have owned thus far.
    Checkout vaporpedia.com for whats available
and fuckcombustion.com for extensive reviews and i do mean extensive)
    Peace

I own Da Buddha. I love it personally, and as far as I can tell the unity functions just like the SSV. My friend used it for the first time yesterday, this gentleman has been using his Volcano for the last couple of years daily. He is going to sell his Volcano, and buy Da Buddha and a netbook with the money from the Volcano ( well he hopes he can do both ), but ya get the point. It's a great vape, simple, strong, effective, comes with a nifty carrying bag.

I've used a DBV and own an SSV, and the SSV won't get you much more performance wise. It can pack a little bigger punch hit wise, with a more concentrated air stream, but the DBV is a little more predictable in its hits. It also takes just a hair more care during use, due to the hands free connection. I like the SSV heater angle. I place it where it's convenient and easy to use, so I don't regret buying it over the cheaper model. But if $ is a factor, or you like the hands free setup, I'd go with the DBV.

I have both the Launch Box and iolite too. Each has different advantages in regards to portability. The LB does better with small amounts, as far as efficiency. The iolite is very stealthy, except in quiet areas where the hissing noise during reheating would be an issue. The LB is a very simple design, and should be much more reliable over time, and it has the best warranty on the market-unconditional and open ended.

I'd go with the DBV and LB over the iolite or SSV alone. You get really high value and both a home vape and a portable.

Thank you very much (to all) for taking the time to respond. Exactly the comparison I was looking for, Vapefiend. Thanks.

    Dude,
I used to think so too. I bought the cheapest (Vapir Mini Oxygen), then went to the Vapolution (a step up) and ended up with a Volcano Digit. Well if the Vapolution is the Honda Accord then the Volcano Digit is the Lexus or Mercedes or Cadillac. I've heard those other whip based systems are good ie SSV, Da Budha etc but they still aren't even close to the pure workmanship and design that allows mostly vapor and no smoke which we all know is harmful. The Volcano is worth the investment too since you save on herb consumption and can squeeze every bit of vapor out of each tiny morsel.

Go for efficiency and health and choose based on that. I like my Vapolution for portability (only not very stealthy), but it has the same weakness as many of the whip based systems. But the Volcano is the bomb and far above all the others IMHO.

SSV makes custom units that put the beauty of the volcano to shame IMHO. The artistic detail and expandability options are currently unmatched in the vaporizer market.
And if u want to compare the vapes to cars then it would be:
Vapir Mini - Yugo (plastic unsafe pos)
Vapolution - Honda Civic (Low Cost, Dependable)
DBV - Acura TL (Great performance at a decent price)
SSV - Porsche 911 Manual Trans (So many options you'll go insane, with super hard core hits that'll take you from 60-0 in less than four seconds)
Volcano - Mercedes S-Class (Start it up and everything else is taken care of with inspiring precision and class)

Now while the Mercedes and the Porsche are both top shelf automobiles, they are two very different cars built for different drivers. One wants maximum power while the other has a desire for ease of use while maintaining excellent performance. This is just like the SSV and the Volcano! The SSV was built to be super customized and deliver the thickest vapor rips on the market (near bong like). The Volcano was designed to be an easy to use, luxury smoking device.
Another way to compare them is a manual transmission versus an automatic. You have complete control over the performance of the SSV, but it is more difficult to master. You have much greater consistency in the performance of the Volcano, but less control (much like an auto transmission).

    It is?

For efficiency, the Purple Days is a helluva lot more efficient. So is the Myrtlezap, so there goes that statement.

For super rich high vapor to air ratio hits? The SSV and the DBV will offer a higher vapor to air ratio hit than the 'Cano, so there goes that statement again.

Stealth factor? Again, the Purple Days wins out.

Sound? The 'Cano has a pump, so it makes noise. The SSV, the DBV, the Purple Days has no moving parts, so............totally silent.

Please don't misunderstand. The Volcano is a GREAT vape and does certain things better than any other vape out there, but to categorically state that it is "far above all the others", even stated as an opinion, is wrong.
It's kinda like sayin', in my opinion, the sky is not normally blue, but green.
    Current Vapes: Purple Days
    Past Vapes: VaporGenie----Iolite-----VaporStar----Da Buddha----Zephyr Ion

I ended up going with the DBV and am very satisfied. The only issue is that each user has to come to a draw rate/temp setting solution, but that just takes time and use. I'm very impressed with the simplicity and apparent durability. The thing seems absolutely bomb-proof. I'm sure my son will inherit the thing while muttering under his breath, "damn hippie stoner.":hippy:
