    lights...

i have a 400W hps and am getting an LED light that is comparable to a 250W hps. I initially thought i would just replace the 400w with the LED, because of heat and usage of electricity. but now i was thinking about going 12/12 and having the LED on for 12 and the HPS on for 6 hours...then 12 dark. would that be bad for her?

there is only one way to find out. but why not use the LED to veg and the HPS to flower. this way you can setup a perpetual harvest and you your lights will serve better purposes.

    that's my $.02 anyhow.

    good growing!

Can you tell me why it isn't any good? Where is a better place to get LED lights from? What makes them better?

    this time...in english.

    That panel uses 28 watts.

A good led driver functions at perhaps 85% efficiency. Assuming that panel uses a good driver ( :lol5: ) it's delivering a maximum of ~24 watts to the leds themselves.

Expect performance NO BETTER THAN 50 watts of HPS, and that's if everything else is well-engineered. So, Glowpanel "45" is an appropriate name. It might match about 45 watt of CFL's, about $6 at the discount store.

With a 400 watt HPS running, your plants won't even notice if that panel's on. Possibly of some use for side-lighting or seedling-starting, but that's about it.

Top quality components run ~ $2/watt for the emitters plus ~ $1/watt for drivers; a top-shelf 30-watt led light should cost ~$90. Maybe a tad more if you use a nice heatsink and/or a cooling fan (that panel has neither.)

Replace a 250 with that panel? No way. That claim, on their website, is just plain silly.

    Quite simply, underpowered.
Discrete Leds, under 2 Watts, have very little penetration.
28Watts of the wrong spectral peak is NOT going to grow big buds.
It will veg a plant or two (for as long as the shoddy construction will allow).

HGL, (Homegrownlights), not cheap, but proven to work well.

    Old Mac swears by Theoremes.
    Pricey, but proven.

    UFOs. Getting cheaper every day.
    And they will grow bud.
Available for under $200 on E-bay.

Check with LEDTIME for a contact in Hong Kong that will make UFO knockoffs to your specs.
    Try 460nm, and 660nm. in a 3:7 ratio.

I have used a Ufo knock-off and it did a decent job.
But, for growing quality, I could not find anything worthwhile at a reasonable price.

So, I did some research and built my own grow lights.

My :weedpoke: indicates that 50 Watts, dichroic, (just red and blue), will grow decent buds.
150W. of 15W emitters can grow buds as large and tight as tropical sunshine.

    Look on dis bud.
    Click her twice.
Den click third time, check fo' lice.

    No like my pidgin doggerel?

A solid LED light will run you about $1k, the cheaper $500 ones are good for veg, i was talking to my hydro guy at the shop and he said the good 2watt led's cost about 25-30bucks each.

I was kidding...you can talk as you want, as long as you provide good feedback...which you obviously do. So instead of just getting another glowpanel 45...i think i will just switch to my 400W hps for flowering. sound good?
