    THE POPE DIED

I don't know much about the pope, and I know a little about the Catholic religion. I do know however that one of the great Henry kings made it up because according to the religion they followed they we're not allowed to have more than one wife, this pissed one of them off so he made his own 'branch' of it. There are several 'branches' of this religion; None of which I follow. I have no doubt that the pope was a good man but he did not do anything of any real significance for me. Therefore he's another good old man dead and gone. Like Ermintonto said, 'hundreds of people die everyday'. People die, thats the way it is, just hope he's in "heavan".

Just to address the "what did he do?" question, don't forget that he was a Polish clergyman at a time when Poland was a communist country under the influence of the former U.S.S.R. It was risky to speak out against the oppression there, and speak he did. Poland and East Germany were among the first places the monolithic Soviet Union started to fall apart, and we should remember that religious freedom was one of the main rallying points, and that John Paul was right there in the middle of the controversy, when he was a bishop.

He was critical of all totalitarian activities, including our own (U.S.A.) at times. As the spokesman and titular head of the church, he was a representative of millions of people who believe in positive values and morality. However misguided at times, religious values are among the few organized systems opposed to the sort of things we regard as "evil"; totaliarianism, slavery, genocide, etc. Sort the conscience of the race. I think he did a good job in that respect. In some ways a chruch or faith is a nation, and he was a good "head of state".

How about a Jewish Pope this time, what do you think? (rim shot).

NP man my fault I can get pretty opinionated sometimes, but I shouldn't be a dink to people just because of that. I should also read your whole post before writing a response.

    No hard feelings.

I think Pope Benedict was the best pope, he brought a lot of change and was also very open minded

What you're talking about is Henry VIII (28 June 1491â??28 January 1547) and his breakaway from Rome to start the Church of England because he wanted a divorce from his wife Catharine of Aragon (Catharine had been pregnant about 7 times but only one child survived, a girl but no male heir).

This Anglican Church had the king as it's head (act of supremacist) the king got to decide whether the church was catholic or protestant. The king dictated and it was protestant.

He was on his way out years ago but people just wanted to keep him alive for aslong as they could. He should of been dead ages ago. I would of hated to be in the public eye constantly if i was dying that must of been well depressing for him
