Need an Answer ASAP~!!!!
Hi everyone,
I have been growing outdoors all summer long. We had an early frost so I brought my plants into my barn and turned an empty satll into a grow room to finish off my plants. It is going to get very cold tonight so here is my question. The only type3 of heat source I have at the moment is 2 Red heating bulbs. ( I use them to keep my chickens water from freezing in winter months. They throw pretty good heat. I am wondering if I keep those plugged in for the night IF they will effect my flowering cycle????
It is suppossed to get down to the 20's tonight. I just need to get through tonight and I guess I will need to go out and buy some sort of heating element????? Any suggestions on that???? Somethng that will not cost me a fortune. Like a small electric heater???? Again any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.........BUT for now I have to get through tonight. So will Red heating bulbs effect my flowering cycle????? If I leave those on all night for a heat source???????
Please answer ASAP I must know this answer. I have closed up the barn nice and tight so the plants are not exposed to the harsh cold of being driectly outdoors......I am really worried as I have another 3 -4 weeks left of budding because of all the rain we had in June.
HELP~!!!!!!

yes it would affect your flowering cycle. if it were me and you dont have access to a regular heater i would probably put the lights in a seperate area and blow the hot air into the plant area as needed. use your imagination to get it in there but i wouldnt risk any light. green light is supposed to be the best option if you say, want to check on your plants during the dark cycle but unneccesary exposure is not recommended. the result of this interuption in the plants dark cycle can induce alot of stress on the plants and possibly result in hermies. hope this info gets to you in time. good luck. keep me updated.

I agree with secret you can also take a large trash bag and carefully over your plants at night. Also another trick that might work if you don't have too many plants is take sealed jugs of water 2 or 3 liter bottles work great and encircle your pots water takes longer to cool so they will protect your roots from freezing.

i like the trash bag idea i just thought of something to when you suggested that. the big home depot contractor bags dont let any light through you could put the lights a few feet off the ground in the same room as the plants with a trash bag over it but not tight at the bottom. the trash bag will keep the light out and the lights facing up will further keep the light away from your plants but still let the heat fill the area and the bottom of the trash bags will still let air exhchange enough to get u through the night, even though in the dark cycle plants do not need any co2 as they are not photosynthesizing but the root still need oxygen.

Thanks guys, I have decided to just let the plants be and see what happens if I have to bring them indoors I will OR I will put a regular bulb in with the grow bulbs for more heat. Right now I have 4 large shppe lights with 2 bulbs each in them. The plants are up off the concrete floors with pallettes then ply wood over that. If it is just a matter of finding a small electric heater that is what I will do probably can find one for a reasonable price at Lowes or Home Depot. Oh wait duhhhh I think I have a small electric heater in my barn. Geez I hope the plants make it okay tonight as it is 30 degrees out right now at 1:30 AM.......I don't think the roots will freeze being in my barn if they were outside with no cover then different story. I am going to set up the heater tomorrow.
another question.....is there a way to mature my plants quicker??? It looks like my 5 White Widows are going to need until the end of November to mature.
Thanks so much or your replies.
