It struck me that the Stoner community, in general, may be in a different place than it used to be. So I thought I would ask the question...where R U, politically speaking:

Far Right
Center Right
Center
Center Left
Far Left

I'm a liberal who has moved far to the right but still have liberal tendencies. I advocate people not being bigots which kind of goes against both parties sensibilities.

the right/left paradigm has little real meaning. i tend toward the center, but i find myself swinging toward what are usually considered far left and far right extremes on some issues. even the concepts of liberal and conservative ultimately fail and the baggage associated with both terms serves only to cause a rift where one does not need to exist.

better to judge a persons stance by the importance they give to such concepts as charity, morality, individualism and personal responsibility and the way in which they define those ideals.

I was raised by a baby boomer far left Howard Dean liberal mother, was a liberal, once I got married and had some kids and worked for a few years, I became much more centrist oriented with some conservative and some liberal views

This was sent to me on e-mail, and acording to this, I am conservative all the way.

Someone finally put it in simple terms.

If a conservative doesn't like guns, they don't buy one. If a liberal doesn't like guns, then no one should have one.

If a conservative is a vegetarian, they don't eat meat. If a liberal is, they want to ban all meat products for everyone.

If a conservative sees a foreign threat, he thinks about how to defeat his enemy. A liberal wonders how to surrender gracefully and still look good.

If a conservative is homosexual, they quietly enjoy their life. If a liberal is homosexual, they loudly demand legislated respect.

If a black man or Hispanic is conservative, they see themselves as independently successful. Their liberal counterparts see themselves as victims in need of government protection.

If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation. A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels. Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down.

If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church. A liberal wants any mention of God or religion silenced.

If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it. A liberal demands that his neighbors pay for his.

it's a pity, but the term "liberal" really has become a euphemism for whiny little bitch. those folks of real conscience who wear that label proudly have lost credibility because of a leadership that betrayed their ideals.

by the same token, conservatism has been smeared by the prudery of a leadership too busy currying favor with the uber-religious and the corrupt within the business community.

we must develop new terms for the ideological bases of these two groups or quit labeling ourselves altogether and remember the art of compromise.

I'm a libertarian. I believe in limited government, personal accountability. Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce summed my beliefs up beautifully. He said "Let me be a freeman: free to travel, free to stop, free to work, free to trade where I choose; free to choose my own teachers, free to follow the teachings of my forebears; free to think and talk and do for myself- and I will abide by every law or submit to the penalty." I want the government out of my personal live as long as I am not hurting others. If people have problems they can solve it themselves whether it is collectively or individually. We have more power than we can imagine if we come together and actually take the time to utilize it. Screw the government! We need to take the time to help each other though to make it work.

I like to think of myself as a Libertarian.

But in general I like the idea of small government with the individual states having most of the power. I believe the federal government should be there for when the individual states need to band together, like at a time of crisis or war. And to print money and get taxes.

I believe in personal freedoms and don't think that the government should have a say about things such as gay marriage and marijuana. It's a personal choice, if you don't like it don't do it.

We should be following the constitution and the federalist papers more.

Less government involvement, in everything from trade to everyday life.
