Sun system Ac hoods
1).Okay I have a question does it matter which end you are pulling the air from the hood from.? Like from the bulb end or the socket end.?
2). Does any one think that they lose light using theses hoods, Just dont look like the ends where your ducting gets attached to, seems like it don't light up theses sides of the cab that well.. Maybe it is just me be over cautious. Juust kinda looking for some thoughts from experiences or maybe info. u have
Cab. is 2x4x4
hood measures 24''wX20''L(with the ac ports adds 5 more inches in L)
400W bulb

I've had two of them, and like them  ... you do lose a tiny bit of lumens, when going thru the tempered glass, but the safety concerns greatly outweigh the slight loss ... the fans tend to work better while sucking the hot air out, but, be sure your fan can handle running hot, all the time ... I use a Home Depot furnace duct fan on mine, to extract the heat ... watch your eyes around high-pressure lamps, etc., too ... be safe :smokin:

IR thanx for stopping by, Could you tell me your space that you were using. An do you feel that you got the same amount of light at the length ends.? Do you connect your fan ducting to the end with the socket for the bulb, or the bulb tip end.? I know you want it to pull the air. Hd furnace fans work real good  got 1.
O ya Ir do you think its good to use the glass wit a Mh.?

1. Whatever is safest and easiest to work around. You don't want shit hanging all over the place. I would think that putting the fan before the heat source would perhaps make the fan last longer, but if using a fan rated for the heat it doesn't matter. Why not one on each end, lol?
2. There are planty of things to worry about with growing cannabis...a few lost lumens from an HID throwing-out over 50,000 of 'em isn't tops among the important issues. After all...it is a Sun System to begin with. (cheap and effective, but not the industries' finest)
Use the safety glass, or wear UV sunglasses and long sleeved shirts. (limit exposure)
I used to use my 400w MH in my 4 x 2 x 7' tall closet with no issues, once you figure-out ventilation and light leaks.

hydrofarm in the instruction manual recommends sucking the air from the far end from the socket. This means fresher air will cool bulb side first. As in my crude diagram. <= air flow direction

Whats up man.?< Ya i know i told ya B4 I have the same ac hood you got. Was trying to figure out which way/end to pull the air from. What size fan are you using on yours.? I was wondering if I could just run my line to pull fresh air in threw the hood put a Y adapter on the other end run ducting to fan.? Then put a reducer on the other end of Y adapter to make it 4in. So I can pull heat out my box to while pulling in fresh cool air on the bulb at the same time.? Does this make any since to ya.? What do you think, I am trying to figure this out asap. Thanx.... Can't wait to see what you get in the mix with next frosted.:jointsmile:.

Hey, after reading what you posted I tried to figure out what you would gain and I can't see it working out. First you will always want less splitting and bending and cornering when you are working with ducting and fans. Check out my new log there are some shots of the inside of my box that may help ya. Also Bigtopfin has a grow log about his two TW plants and he goes over some different setups as well. I am basically leaving one end open and then on the other end I am using a duct fan to push hot air out of the box and thru a carbon filter. My goal was to get a somewhat neg air exchange going where the fan exhausting the air out was also pulling the fresh air into the box with the help of a small 4'' duct booster fan. That will work for me only if I get a better cfm rated duct fan the boosters are just not enough. Lets see some pics of what you are working with and on...that would help.
