why would anyone want to open a dispensary who doesn't grow?

I have been doing a lot of reading on permits, costs, obstacles, etc, and just wanted to seek any advice from current operators. Also, I do not want to grow my own if I do not have to, what's the alternative? Forgive me if my knowledge is lacking, and I know I can search all day and find bits and pieces, but I thought a thread centralizing the info would be nice.
