Slimy Roots that Float =(
What is your experience level? Done some soil grows, first time hydro.
Your Equipment:
.1) 256 watts of CFLs with room for more.
.2) Set about a foot above the plants
.3) Bare Bulbs
.4) Constant air supply + Fan
.5) Passive exhaust for veg cycle (24 hour light cycle, My plants have never seen darkness yet.)
Your medium:
.7) No medium, Just stem in water.
.8) No container, I have them supported in 2 inch holes with pipe insulators around the stem holding it in place.
.9) Clones were rooted in plain water with a bubbler at bottom.
Your nutrients and water:
10) Tap water =( the ph test is green, 7ish
11) General Hydroponics pH test indicator drops.
12) General Hydroponics pH Up and Down
13) Canna Nutrients, for Veg cycle. Aqua Vega A & B, Cannazym, and Rhizotonic (which is FUCKING AMAZING)
14) DWC, Changed the rez once already, still the same problem. I even sterilized EVERYTHING
15) I added some H202 to fight the slime, it's still coming back.
16) pH levels rise a little everyday, but I have to top off alot since my rez is only a 10 gallon fish tank.
17) No runoff. DWC
18) I spray the unrooted clones so they don't die, but with plain tap that has sit out to lose the chlorine.
19) I have the tank surrounded in thick black felt so no light gets too the roots
Your growroom:
19) Indoors
20) The grow area is about 20 inches deep, 18 inches high, and 30 inches wide
21) It's about 68 degrees in the grow area, and rez is about the same. I don't have a thermometer tho... It's never warm to the touch.
22) Never seen any insects.
Your strain:
23) Its a bag seed, but i would say it's a mix of both, more indiaca cause its short and bushy =)
24) Clones
25) Not at all autoflower, the mother has been growing for 6 months, never seen darkness, and never flowered.
The problem, I just keep getting slimy roots. It got so bad I had to cut a section of roots out of one of them. That god for Rhizotonic, cause that shit makes roots grow like crazy!
The roots are pure white right now, but when the smile gets hold they turn a slight beige, to a brown. (I cut the brown out to get rid of it, and washed the beige to salvage them)
Should I add some bleach? more h202? I don't want to change my rez every week, I want this to be cost effective, and canna nutes are expensive!!
Any help is appreciated.turmoil Reviewed by turmoil on . Slimy Roots that Float =( What is your experience level? Done some soil grows, first time hydro. Slimy Roots that Float =(
Could be algae or it's bacteria overgrowth, what is called 'rootrot'.
here's a page on it. Looks like better oxygenation might help.

The critical missing info is the daily working PH. of the rez.
If you let it creep much above 5.8, you will get root slime and some lockout.
The key to good health is a LOT of air, vigorous bubbling, and low PH.
That combo keeps my roots healthy at 90 degrees F., in full sunlight.
Of course, I don't use Cannazyme, or Rhizotonic either.
(Can't really tell if it works unless you have a similar grow without them that does not do as well, yah?)
My roots grow crazy-good without them.
And they just might be contributing to the slime growth.
Just a thought.
