So you just cut the bottom of the bag and stick it in the pail? That rules...less stress i suppose..

yep.
BOG used to cut his pails, duct tape the bottom back on and remove the bottom when transplanting on top of a larger pail. I've tried it once and it worked well. In this case I have four or more weeks until I harvest so it should be woth while.

I don't know about a 'tier method' BOG worked with Bubblegum strain and created some of his own very nice hybrids.
Cutting the bottom of the bag off, i place it into the partially filled 5 gallon pail. Then I use a sissors to triim off the bottom few inches of the bag and fill around it with potting soil. I water both from the top and from the sides to keep the soil equally moist.
