Has anyone tried or heard of success in cannabis propagation through tissue culture? I've successfully TC'd oriental lilies in the past and had limited success with tricyrtis. It was just for fun at the dining room table not a commercial endeavor. Just wondering and thought it might be fun to try. My friend TC's orchids and we thought it might be fun to try cannabis.

Seems a little difficult, but I suppose it would have it's applications. It is usually easier for a small scale gardener to take cuttings vs. a tissue culture, so I doubt too many have done it. If cannabis weren't so easy to germinate and or clone, TC would be great for keeping a strain alive.

I for one would love to watch the process and see how you go about it. You should give it a shot and log it on here with pics and specifications.

I'm thinkin' of tryin for sh#ts and giggles. I have no problem with cuttings but I have the equipment and a basic recipe for the growth media. It's been a while so I figure why not play Mr. Wizard in the kitchen and dining room. There really isn't any reason to try other than fun.

I am very much intereseted in tissue culture, in fact the first thread I ever started here was much the same as yours, looking for someone who had success with mj. I've been able to do african violets, with a lot of help from a women I know who does african violets commercially. I have tried to do mj, but could only get to first stage, growing cells off the cut. Biggest problem for me has been to find the time for that experiment, allways seems to go to the back burner.

The only person to respond to me was Stinkyattic, but she had not done mj, but was just intereseted also. And again she had the same problem as I, lack of time.

Media for the specific plant can be a problem. What works for Hostas doesn't necesarily work for orchids. I have a basic stove top recipe I'll try. The advanced recipes I have require way to many chemicals and are to complex. If the basic recipe doesn't work with more than minor tweeking I'll have at least tried. My youngest son is 16 and taking horticulture this year. I may be a good father and son project.

I taught him 240 volt wiring straight from the breaker box to wire in 40amp timers and the outlets. He can even take a 120volt leg of a 10/3 line to run the ventilation separately. All his work is up to code!

I don't have a digital camera but I'll try and borrow one. I'll try to start in a few weeks.

What part of the MJ did you take the cutting from? I'm thinking a leaf node. I'm also thinking of trying the initial root of a germinating seed or some such area.

Hey greeri,

I used a small piece of a young fan leaf abt 1"x2" taken from the center of the leaf that included the center vein. Top of the leaf down, as suggested by Stinkyattic.

Since then I had gotten a recipe from somewhere else, designed for mj, but I've been seaching like crazy and can't seem to find it att. I'll keep looking.

the future children - w tissue cult being able to provide this w enough starters this now a reasonable possibility. handy for those whos legal limits are related to sq footage and not the # of plants

Ziggy, it'd be great for shipping plants across state lines in the future, if that ever becomes legal. Phytosanitary documents should be easier to obtain (in theory) because everything is sterile. No spreading of plant diseases or pests!
