UFO Lights
IMHO your friend is wrong. We already have diodes in the correct colour wavelenghts, and even had them back many years ago with 5mm diodes. The problem is getting enough photon flux energy from them. Mostly we are at 2 watt diodes, tho LedEngine (and other companies) have some 5w and even 15w ones. The next generation of hi power LEDs are on the way.

There are many advances taking place in the general light market place as municapalities and companies are headed to switch street lights and such to LEDs. That technology will filter down to us for horticultural use, but it will take time, since we are just a niche market.
