Is it neccessary or beneficial enough to put an airstone in the bottom reservoir seeing as how this particular unit pumps the water up to the dripring using air anyway?Also, is the water/nutrient changing schedule still best every two weeks with this system?

yes u should have an air stone in ur bottom bucket, once ur plants get big enough their roots will grow thru the holes in the top bucket and into the nutrient solution. your roots will die in there without the airstone.
about the nutrient question it depends on what your using for nutrients.
