***Raised beds and a late start***

Hello everyone.

I have deicided to throw up a few pics of a raised bed garden. The pics actually wont be up for a few days due to camera issues but it should be within a day or so. This garden wasnt started until July 25th which is the day the garden was constructed and the 30 p-19clones( or so im told) were planted. This was much later than had originally been hoped for but due to a mid summer move this was unavoidable

That said. i will explain the simple construction of the bed used. An area of top soil 12'x12' was first turned about 8'' deep with pick axes. The soil and stone(which there were plenty of) were removed and moved to the side for their later use. Kinda a side note but because these were put out so late in the season it was thought that the depth of the hole could be reduced from the original intended dimensions which were about double for the depth. Next 4 10''x2'' board were used to construct basic walls for the perimeter of the bed. The stone gathered was then re spread back onto the floor of the garden in the hopes that it would allow for better drainage and maybe some air movement. Next the topsoil that was dug up was used to kinda brace the walls around the perimeter of the box. This basically completed the makeshift bed.
The box was then filled with:
3 bales of pro-mix bx
1/3 bag of perlite
1 30lb bag of earth worm castings
3 bags of oceanfloor from foxfarm
11 pounds of peruvian sea bird guano
1 box of foxfarm peace of mind tomato and vegtable
then there were 3 full rubbermaids of random soil from a previous grow that had been cleaned and rinsed with ph'ed water

do believe that was the soil mixture......hmm

what else.....so they were about 16 days old(from the point they had stabilized after moving from the power cloner 2 soil) when they went in and the spacing is about 1 1/2' . basically 6 rows of 5 plants.

they havnt been fed them with any nutrients whatsover beyond what was originally used to amend the soil. They havnt had to have been watered at all either since there has been plenty of rain.

That sounds like a bunch o nutes to me... Maybe too many? I'm sure someone with more outdoor knowledge can drop in and offer their opinion. How are they looking, you didn't really tell us how they've been doing with the rain and all.

So they are doing amazing. I have fortunatly had no issues with nutes or mother nature. No bugs, no animals everything looks great. I used a little slug-go about 2 weeks ago just because it was so wet. Figured lots of slugs would be coming out to play. The only issue i see thus far is that the area of my bed is not large enough. If it was a little bigger they wouldnt be as crowded as they are. With that said though , they are all doing really really well.

I do have a few questions though.....

1. When should i begin using kool-bloom. I plan to use the concetrated powder form although i also have the liquid. I have heard a variety of answers to this but wonder what the experts think.


2.I have read in SOMAs organic gardening book that he waits until the 3rd week of flowering to lst/fim which seems a little on the late side. I feel bad damaging the tops when they already have some flower formation.

thats really it.

they seem 2 be doing well enough that im not stressing things 2 much.

Going to get this camera checked out today. So hopefully soon people.

So it has just been decided to do a little LST today. The 18 or so perimeter plants will be tied over to bamboo sticks. Hopefully this will allow the underbrush i didnt trim to really be productive. We shall see........
Also this will hopefully open up the center plants which are the biggest and have not had their lower growth trimmed off yet. Think i may do a little of that 2. Any ideas????
