your personal info in photo data ... how to remove

did you know, when you take a photo with your digital camera, all sorts of your personal info, may be embedded in it ? ... :wtf: ...

... a FREE utility is available, that automatically strips that info, from your digital photo file ... a recent 'PC WORLD' magazine article detailed the situation ... anyway, just Google for 'jStrip', it's a small, fast download ... you can remove the info, as you load them into your computer, or, as I did, stripped the identity data, from an entire folder ... my 'Med MJ' folder, in this case :smokin:

What kind of information did the article detail was available on pictures..?? To the best of my knowledge one can only obtain the camera model and date taken/modified...which proves nothing..except that I'm not the only one that owns that camera model

With some cameras it also records the camera's serial number.

typically, it will only record time, exposure, settings, etc.., yup, who cares about that stuff ?, BUT, in some models, it will record the serial number (as stated above), and warranty-type info, etc... the article also mentioned, that the newer digital cameras, (with built-in GPS gathering circuitry), could lead the wrong people right to your door (or, within 15 feet, or so ) ... no need for paranoia, but we need to know the possibilities ... :smokin:

Great info, thanks a lot!!! I've been off line and will remain so for some time as a result of the digital info trails. Sure miss being here and everyone-particularly this kind of info.

that's exactly what I meant by 'paranoia' :wtf: ... whatever is done, is done ... be aware of it, but don't worry about it ... I've posted LOTS of photos here, I hardly think I am worthy of expensive surveillance ... and, I'm sure not going to worry about, what I can't undo ... relax :smokin:

I'm not sure about that, Mark, the article didn't mention 'how' to obtain it ... I would think a person would have to be able to access the 'Properties' info, though ... if I remember correctly, you are a much higher level tech, than I am, it's beyond my knowledge :smokin:
