if you are talking about the can fan brand, inline duct fan then you need ducting ,it slides over the fan on the intake and exhaust, its sold every were, the easiest place to find it would be home depot.its what is attached to your dryer at home.it comes in sizes from 4 inches all the way up to 12 and costs about $14 for 25 feet.something you might also want to consider is the fact that most fans are verry loud.i have found one brand of fan that is verry quite and moves a decent amount of air, i have 3 of them 2 for inch and a 6 inch.even the 6 inch is verry quite with ducting you cant hear anything.well compared 2 my 8 inch vortex anything sounds quieter, its called a s&p inline duct fan and the only place i have seen them is on hydrowholesale.com "i now not to drop names" but its the only place there available, look into getting a 4 inch.good luck

well the hydro farm fans are crap,i have a 6 inch that barely made it through one grow as a simple exhaust for room temp air, hydro farm is a local company for me and both of my friends stores will not stock most of there products, they do make good long lasting cheap water pumps though but thats about it.the impeller in my hydro farm became unseated,it came with a warranty but when i spoke with the rep he asked how i had it mounted,he told me that because it was hung with bunjee cords "to eliminate vibration" that my warante was void because i didnt follow proper mounting directions wich is bulls shit,i mean if you have the cash pick up a vortex, but honestly your using cfl's your not running hps lights so you can get a away with using a much smaller cfm rated fan, however u need to remember that when you add ducting and have any sort of bend in your ducting, like say...a 2 45 deg,and one 90 deg bend you just lost power out put on your fan and it decreases your cfm numbers,my general rule of thumb,is get 4X the amount cfm need for your exhaust and find the fan that is closest to that number,it saves a lot of hassle.

squirel cage fans are nice in large applications, but you also need 2 buy both flanges for them, also sold at home depot. i was thinking something like this.Hydro Wholesale offers Wholesale Hydroponics, HPS and MH Grow Lights, HydroWholesale hydroponic Supp: 6" TD Series Inline Fan, 312 CFM
.i use this just for my lights, and it hasnt had a problem keeping up.vents 2 600's and one 400 linked 2 gether andits just rite.

well if thats the case my friend than there is only one option.the cadillac of fans, VORTEX,plus they hold there re sale value and come with a 10 year warranty. anything under 8 inches is relatively inexpensive and will last forever.

    GO TO HOME DEPOT!!!!!!!

8" inline can fan, $34, moves 210cfm by itself, get 2 and they can move 500cfm. Much better deals for cheaper grow ops. Here's the link.

seems like a steal. can fans are great. i found the most elegant solution to heat/exaust issues is to buy a bigger fan than what you need and buy an additional wattage restrictor. you can then adjust your fan as needed so you dont pull out too much humid air. gotta strive for that 45% RH.
