using something like that is good for smaller grows yes,but that fan is designed to only do one thing, assist a larger inline duct fan when the runs are 2 long,so you would ad that to help boost your cfm.
the duck- no,it is a booster fan, your fan that has the 8x3 slot sounds like a squirrel cage fan or a blower, wich i mentioned a couple posts above this one as being not as effective as a good inline fan:thumbsup:

check out some computer fans the actually can move up to 48 -60 cfm's i use two 4" fans at 12 volts and they kick ass

I use a 4" one of those homedepot ones for a 150watt HPS cool tube. It works nice, you can't even feel heat 1" from the bulb. Haven't used the bigger ones, but seems like it would work the same.
