I agree with what you say. Looks are just the beginning. Its all about smell and taste, and most of the dispensaries are selling "work" that has no flavor. The problem is most people have never smoke or seen much A+, or really know what to look for. Most people go by name, or looks. I have sat in a dispensary for hours and watched people buy what i thought were average buds, and pass over the stuff i think is the A+.

And you dont have to stick your nose in the jar and break open a bud to smell it. If someone cracks a jar, you smell it from across the room. Buds are perfectly manicured with no leaves or stems at all. Never bagged, only stored in jars. All organic. I hate bud that looks good but has no smell or flavor. I would rather buy bud that doesnt look as good, but tastes, smells good.:rastasmoke::rastasmoke::rastasmoke:

I have visited a dispensary with over 75 strains, plus edibles, tinctures, oils, and tons of knowledge. The budtenders were aware of my condition and asked about how I work so they could assist me in selecting the proper medication for daytime and for nighttime. For those of you who do not know there are different strains for differents pains and different strains for the time of day and conditions you are able to medicate in. I would have to rate 10 out of the 12 dispensaries I visited to have very knowledgeable staff, high security, and quality medication. I think the good business models will succeed and the bad ones weed themselves out (pun intended). Good luck to all who have it together with their business models. I find that the dispensary model that appeals most to me ( and probably most adult patients) does not include a neon pot leaf in the window. I prefer a more like a clinic (but not cold) environment.
Here's my best experience.

Discrete signage outside or on door. I was greeted by an attractive young lady at the front desk after being buzzed through a security door. She took my Dr. recommendation and drivers license for proper identification. They had a large comfortable waiting area with reading material and water available. The budmaster met me and asked what I was interested in, what my conditions was, what type of work I did, what type of medication works best. After about a 8 minute conversation he helped me select several different strains. He was careful with the medication, respecting that it is expensive and needs to be tended carefully. Also the weights were on the heavy side about 4 grams. (1/8 oz. = 3.5 grams) and only charged me the 1/8 oz. price. They were courteous, knowledgeable, didn't rush me (I probably smelled at least 30 different varieties), and were reasonable priced.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who cares about this stuff. Hey NS, that's the 2nd time you've brought up your CG's ability and I gotta ask, what medium is he/she using?

Come on by and visit us (Compassionate Pain Management - Louisville, CO)...

Clean and professional atmosphere with prices starting at $20/g ($18 for patients who we are Caregivers for) and eighths from $55 - $65 (again, 10% off of those prices for patients that we are Caregivers for). This week, 12/31 & 1/1 we have $45 eighths of Mr. Nice & Durban Poison.
Hopefully the State will eventually realize that the system with patients needing a Caregiver and dispensaries holding only as much as they can have patients only makes it hard to both do business and to keep prices down. Yes, to the dismay of many, unfortunately those that are 'regulars' with us and name us as their Caregiver receive a 10% discount off of everything we sell - from a gram to a massage. Most patients who frequent us will pay $50 - $58.50 per eighth. Every week has a sale sent to our mailing list which has often lately been "Buy two grams, get a third free" on Tuesdays.
I have to comment after reading through all of the inquiries about the price of medicine - something that isn't taken in to account is that, yes, us as dispensary owners do this for a living and in order to sustain that, we need to profit. However, all of the hype about dispensaries pulling in ridiculous profits may have existed when there were only a dozen or less in the state often touting their best week's business and the total patients that ever visited their location. While there are MANY shady operations out there, there are a few of us that are working as hard as we can (easy 70+ hour weeks for me) to make your experience as easy, safe, clean, and professional as possible. Keep in mind the fixed expenses that your street dealer didn't have to pay worker's comp, rent, advertising, insurance, taxes, etc (I don't think I need to go on with the list). I only say this as I see how many people are upset at the price of meds - hopefully the black market won't drive the prices as they have - but I assure you, and we're proof as we had to start at $60-$70 per eighth and recently dropped to $55-$65 (this is before Caregiver 10% discounts), that it will come down. The cost of business does exist and must be covered, otherwise, there won't be any dispensaries and unfortunately with the new licensing and channels the gov't is working on, we'll have a harder time bringing it down. I know, for one, that we're working our tail off to provide the best possible meds at the best possible price - and importantly we hand it down to our patients.
I would appreciate an honest review - I welcome anyone to please come by anonymously and report. It's the only way that we can get a true grip on how we are serving our patients. Expect at least 15 strains (often more) at any given time and usually 4+ types of hash, and always (unless someone comes in and buys all of the cookies which happens often) everything from fudge to cookies, 'Jolly Rachers' and lollipops, Ice-Cream to tinctures, capsules, and our trusty suppositories.
Come by and check us out - Strain Man, I want you to bring it! We're next to Subway in Louisville open M-F 11am-7pm, Sat-Sun 11am-4pm. This week is a bit off with the holidays with New Years Day open 12pm-4pm.
We have doctor days on Monday and Wednesday afternoons so I will admit that the wait when it's busy can go on for 20 minutes or so - shorter if you know what you want as we can prepare what you want without having to enter the dispensing rooms (essentially consultation-type rooms). Those looking for a doctor recommendation can predict a typical wait at your doctor's office (which we all must admit is usually about 20-30 minutes of waiting) - we do our best, but it happens from time-to-time. If the moratorium wasn't in effect, we would be able to move to a larger space and make it a much quicker experience for all.

When I first got my card I went crazy and would go ahead and pay the outrageous $60+ for 1/8. But now (3 mos later) I've found a couple of disps with $50 caps (tax included) for absolute FIRE. Some even less. I understand people need to make cash to survive but just like I won't buy produce at Whole Foods because it's way more expensive than King Sooper, I won't pay over $50 for my meds EVER again (hopefully). Bring your prices down and you will kill in the marketplace.

Prices starting at $20 per gram OUCH!!! You won't catch me in your store. $58.50 for caregiver price is a travesty.

I have to comment back. Street dealers didnt have to pay sales tax, workmens comp, insurance, but you dont have to worry about going to JAIL. Do you know how much bail, lawyers fee, probation cost? Do you know how much it sucks to quit smoking for a year and having piss in a cup once a week? You are doing this LEALLY! The reason street dealers charged $50 is because they could lose their "FREEDOM", which you cant put a price tag on. Weed is plant that grows easily, it should be cheap. If you grew your own for the dispensary, you would make a lot more $$ and be able to charge a lot less. To me, Just the fact that it is legal know, means the price should drop at least %50. More and more people are gonna start growing their own, and there will be less need for dispensaries. Why go to a dispensary and pay $60 and eighth, when you can just call up a buddy and get one for $40. Or just buy a light for $400 and grow you own for free?
