Quick pot size Question

Hi,

Just want to know if after germanation of the seed , is it neccesary to put the plant in a small pot(1.5gallon) and increase pot size as it gets bigger(upto-3gallon) . Or could you put it straight into the 3gallon after germanation ?

If not why ?
