Each strain has what you would call a "critical photoperiod" which means a certain amount of uninterrupted darkness will trigger flowering. Some strains may be triggered by 10 hours of darkness, some may be triggered by 8. Most of us indoor guys use 12 because very few strains will require a longer dark period. If you are growing from GH seeds, their site has a ton of information about each of their strains.

Consult an almanac, and try to find out when and how the photoperiod in your area will adjust, and try to plant accordingly. Happy growing:thumbsup:
