A good bagseed, unless your funds are not an issue. Cheaper to fail using bagseed, and they are usually easier to get. If going with femmed seeds, do so from a reliable vendor, and not some backyard 'breeder' looking for quick bucks over quality genetics..

I'd go with a container potting mix. Especially being a newbie that has never grown. Compost is mighty rough on clones, seedlings and newbies. You will be chasing issues throughout the grow.

Find-out if you can successfully bring a lady to harvest before getting greedy. Especially in your small growspace, with CFL's. The CFL's may do the trick for early growth, but the usable light (strong enough to promote photosynthesis) won't penetrate to the lower regions of larger, taller plants.
