Is it too soon to be asking for a MMP card?

For the past 7 weeks, I have a sharp, intense pains radiating down my leg. I had ultrasounds, xrays and an MRI, all which showed nothing. These doctors keep throwing muscle relaxers and vicodin/percoset at me even after I tell them it does NOTHING for the actual pain.

I realize some of the other members on here have been dealing with chronic pain for months/years, and to be honest, I don't know how you do it. Even after 7 weeks, at one point today I got really teary eyed (its okay, I'm a female) because it hurts every waking moment and I feel like I'm about to reach my breaking point.

I've smoked a few times and I can actually get up, walk around and bend over to pick something up without wincing in pain. I can do laundry, play with my dog, clean the house, you know...live a normal life!

After 7 weeks of doctors appointments, is it too soon to begin seeking a mmp card? From the looks of these boards, I guess its not easy finding a doctor. I'm hesitant to ask my regular doctor about this, in fear that she will say no and it will affect any future visits when I need a prescription drug.

Advice? I'm new to the board so feel free to haze me...haha...

    Thanks

you should ask your doctor what they think about the mmj program to get a feeler on how they react

head over to RIPAC: Medical Marijuana in Rhode Island

very helpful organization in the state. they have a ton of resources. i would personally just suck it up and straight ask my doctor; worst case scenario, i'd find a new pcp. you obviously have a debilitating condition which requires treatment, and make sure you mention to your doctor any concerns you have with conventional treatment (aka pills) such as liver damage, dangerous side effects, and threat of addiction.

i just became a registered caregiver in ri. can't wait to start aiding people who need it most.

hope this helps, and take care.

i am a patient with chronic pain. onset of pain has an extremely good prognosis, and should get better in a few months. chronic pain is defined as pain lasting longer than three months with physiological causes(i.e. herniated disc, neurological nerve pain, migraines, etc.) debilitating is defined as greatly interfering with daily activities like school, work, social life, or mental state.

it took me almost a year to find a doctor, and i have positive test results, and have tried tons of other things to get me down that road. if you truly believe that the herb will help manage the pain, if it becomes chronic(sic) ask your doctor. if you believe afterwards that your doc is discriminating against you for asking, that is illegal and you can sue.
