it really pisses me off when people dont like bands because they have shit personalities, or because they wear masks and look stupid....or if they have a huge following......who cares......if you dont like music for that reason them you are a loser and you should probly think about why you like the music you do.....if you think its cool to like the music you do...grow up

I mostly agree, but on the other hand: why do you care so much about what other people think about your taste in music?
I've noticed a certain cross-section of modern hard rock/metal fans practically exhibit signs of an inferiority complex by getting extremely defensive about any band they like that achieves any sort of commercial success. In this respect, said success does change the perception- not only of the detractors as you've stated, but of the fans; it's no longer "I like Band X", it's "I've liked Band X since before they were big!". Or something along those lines. There's always a caveat... the post which I've quoted having one of "I like Band X, so what if they're mainstream?". I think simply saying "I like Band X, peroid" would suffice nicely, and if any music snob has anything to say, they can fuck off.
I think I sort of forgot my point, because I lost an hour somewhere and can't find it, but I think it goes along the lines of "anyone who has to get defensive as to why they like a band or artist needs to be less self-conscious; and to heed their own advice and just like the music". By getting defensive, you end up letting popularity change your perception of the band, and that's the irony.

I like bands just for their music, but I have to admit, bands who try to portray themselves as being so incredibly evil or similar do not attract my interest. If people are total twats, who aim to sell stuff through their image rather than their actual music, I don't really want to listen to what they've made to be honest, whether they're popular or not.

you have a very good point there...i honestly wouldnt care if the bandsi liked were on tv all the time n shit....cause i would get to see them more but when people say this band i shit cause their on tv all the time (which i figure was part of your point) thats what pisses me off......

and i also agree with you there....although a 7 years ago i would of been attracted to bands that were this way....not because of their music....for eg marilyn manson....i liked he because he wasnt conventional rock/pop/metal (whatever you want to call him) he went against everything that (most) people say...(kinda)....but then i thought shit who cares what he looks like...he has a good message (lol)....or a strong message....do i actually care if he's selling thousands of albums and is on top of the pops....no....y should i....do i care if other people dont like him?.....not really....

but my main point is......when people say a band is shit...meaning the music is bad....actually i just thought saying a band is shit doesnt mean the music is bad.....welll ill stop this stoned rambling now....and think about what i just thought about..........

i dont really....as i said above it annoys me when people say a band is shit when they arn't....just because you dont like the type of music or the attitude/messages of the band/music does not by any means mean the band is shit...that is what annoys me.
