Scrog Newb With Questions
So I am trying a scrog for the first time. I just weaved my Master Kush plant into the screen and it looks like the pics I've seen, but I have a couple concerns. My questions are as follows:
1) I bent a lot of the stems while trying to maneuver them through the screen. Is this normal, and will the plant be OK? Nothing was severed, just a lot of bent and crushed stems.
2) How often should I weave the new growth back through the stem, or how far do I want the tips to grow up through the screen when I flower?
I have a couple more months before I can flower due to the heat, so I figured a screen might be an easier way to manage the monster. The thing should have my 3x4 screen filled up by then, as its already filling up half of it.
Thanks for any help! :thumbsup:dejayou30 Reviewed by dejayou30 on . Scrog Newb With Questions So I am trying a scrog for the first time. is this still applicable, or was it the (purple?) kush plant that just broke?

Yeah, its still applicable. I had the one PK and two Master Kush plants going, so I just scrogged one of them instead.

Sooo any input? The branches and leaves are still limp. Are they gonna bounce back? A lot of the bent spots are turning dark, like brown or black. Should I un-weave them and straighten them out or is this normal?

I wish I had something to offer in the way of help dejayou30, but I don't do scrog. And it seems your problem is scrog specific, but maybe a post from me (there's lots of people who like to find my misstakes) will get some more views!
good luck, hate to see you having problems after so much time and effort.

I personally feel like bending is the purpose of the scrog technique. You are more or less bending the plant to expose lower node sites in hope that they will develop into main colas. Crushing or snapping is not necassary but if it does happen its not the end of the world . Especially if you plan to veg for quite a while longer. The plant will have time to pop back from any damage that occured while adjusting to the screen.

hey there mate..... im a scrogger.
stems are best left un-crushed and un broken(not severed) as you would when supper cropping. the best time to re-weave tops is when they are between 3-4 inches above the screen.
the reason for this is that the plants top 3-4 inches seem to be the softest. also waiting untill you have 3-4inches to play with means that when re-weaved the growing tip will be 1-2inches above the screen in its new position. this allows for faster vertical standing of the growing tip and so faster overall growth..
BUT......
sometimes if i get a more stretchier arm ill pinch it before i but it back under the screen. this has the effect of slowing that particular branch down and allows the other to catch up.
if you think about it you can use the damage caused by pinching and 90deg bending of your stems to your advantage to slow down new growth and allow other branches to catch up... from this youll understand how much 90deg bending and pinching CAN slow down growth.
mixing supper cropping and scrogg together... work realy well for me.
ill super crop for 2weeks from a preflowered 6inch clone.(preflower the mom for 2-3weeks for a supper bush effect)
start of week 3 ill add the screen. take a week to fill the screen. one top per hole kinda thing. because of the preflowering and the supper cropping the plants are say 12inches high, 16 inches wide. by end of week 3. lovly little bushes.
one more week for me as i had to clear a nute problem. then flower.
iv added a few pics from end of 21DAYS . on the underbranch shot you can see where i have supper cropped/piched the branches to aid in the spread of the branches and so aid the spread of the canopy.
i found that its faster to bend the main branch at 90 deg. all branches that grow from this main stem reach the screen very fast. As they travel straight up.
if i dont supper crop all branches must come up at angles to the screen and so must travel thurther. in the under branch shot you can see the closest plant is supper cropped. the plant to its left has not be cropped that well and has taken longer to fill the screen...
hope this helps...

ps treat a broken stem like a broken leg....
straighten it back into place and then add a touch of vasaline to keep in moisture... and to stop the tape sticking to the branch.
now wrap securly but not tightly in electrical tape. secure the branch in place with supports.
leave for 2weeks and then remove....
the break should have healed nicly....
if not remove the broken stem as it will not mend after 2weeks...imo:thumbsup:
