In regards to foil vs. paper, are there any potential fire hazards by using paper with a low-wattage lamp?

Hey man,

I have quite a few things I think you should know.

A.) During flowering, plants do NOT like a lot of nitrogen, feed them more Phosphorus and Potassium. Feed them bloom nutes or any general plant food with more P and K than N.

B.) Do NOT line your dresser with foil tape! Foil creates hot spots and is actually really terrible at reflecting light for the purposes you intend it for! Paint the inside flat white or tape some white printer paper to some cardboard slabs and throw those puppies in there! SO MUCH BETTER THAN FOIL TAPE!

C.) For circulation inside of your dresser, you want bigger exhaust potential at the top near your light than the intake potential at the bottom so that:

1. You can create a negative pressure in your cab so as to pull in cool air at the bottom
2. Vent the hottest air around your light(s) immediately
3. Create an air current that circulates from the bottom up bringing all of the cool air from the bottom up to the top

D.) If you set up your circulation with enough negative pressure, you shouldn't need intake fans. Get a good fan for your cab. A good fan is a fan that will renew the air in your box once every 1 - 2 minutes. This means that you need to determine the cubic feet measurement of your area by multiplying the Length X Width X Height, and then find a fan that can pull that or half of that per minute (Cubic Feet per Minute or CFM).

For example, say your dresser is 5' x 3' x 4'. This equals 60 cubic feet (5 x 3 = 15 x 4 = 60). In this instance you would need a fan that has a rating between 30 and 60 CFM.

E.) Have you trimmed the bottom 2 - 3 inches of your plants off yet? Is that where your problems are occurring? If this is where those leaves are beginning to turn it is probably because they are worthless to the plant. The very most bottom foliage does not get enough sunlight to be of any good to the plant (bud sites suck too) and they essentially drain and distract energy away from your prime leaf and bud sites. By removing those lower branches and straggly leaves, you relieve the plant of that stress and refocus its attention on the primo bud sights that get lots of sun!

Interesting, are you planning on doing an indoor project throughout the Winter?

I'm in IL as well and plan on continuing these current babies indoors.

There may be a slightly higher risk of fire if you use paper, however, if you have put in the effort to correctly set up your room/ box then you shouldn't have much to worry about as long as you prevent the paper from coming into direct contact with the bulb. Circulation is key! Avoid tin foil at all costs, there are so many more efficient reflection techniques that are comparable in price (not to mention easier too) than tin foil.

so this is what the dresser is looking like.
the only thing needed to be done is lights and fan.
the GE Gro N Show light isnt doing jack.
was thinking of getting shop lights to put in.
box is 34" x 18" x 35"
how big of a fan do i need?
what do you recommend for lighting?

If light seems to not be doing enough why not go with a CFL grow.
Couple Y-splitters and 6500k and 2700k Bulbs. Most lumens you can find is best. Or hung bathroom ficture with the Y-splitters. For fan you want enough to circulate what ever your grow space is.
