    Black Bear & molasses

I live in The Great Smokies , a couple of days ago I fed my girls with some molasses and have attracted a bear to my patch, I have had some problems with ants being attracted to this fertilizer medium before - a easy resolve a little boric acid around the garden and all was well. Now I have a large bear, unfortunetly bears here have acclimated to humans and this one will not budge - I am a nature lover and will not harm wildlife but decided to shoot my rifle over his head - no responce- he finally fled after much screaming- Anyone else in this group had bear attracted to molasses in their garden? If so what will be a way to keep this pest away?

A nature lover with a rifle? For some reason that seems rather odd, lol. :wtf:
If these are your meds, you might have to see it like the bears see it. That bear is getting between you and your kids. If in season, aim a little lower next time. Makes great jerkey and with a little work, a nice rug. Might even find someone to dress it and sell it for ya.

Or perhaps some essence of mountain lion?

Rusty T- yes I am a nturalist but one who knows when a pest is a pest- the wildlife officials here call this bear a neusance bear and can be shot if it is damaging home or crops I have friend who hunts bear and is trustworthy and hungry for some fresh meat- I have spread moth balls around the area to mask smell of molasses- will watch today and see what happens- My girls definetly mean more to me the one bear when the woods are full of them- there was a woman recently killed here by a bear and several more injured-I will protect my ladies at all cost- and a rug would be kind of cool to have

A naturalist with a gun, AND a level head? Naaaaa. Couldn't happen, lol.

Might make the cover of High Times if you could get a good shot of him (her) munching near your buds. Would definatelly make it in, if you could get a shot of him taking a bonghit. (ok...guess I'm stoned)

Bummer about the victim. Usually comes in two's though. The human victim, and then the animal victim.

had bears raiding her trash. We were at the Dollar Store one day and they had these big bottles of hot chili pepper powder. She smiled wickedly and bought 5! The bears soon decided that other folk's trash tasted better!

You know, I heard chili powders and such are wonderful remedies for bears as they mess up the senses. Maybe you should see if you can find some habanero pepper flakes or powder. I guarantee that will work! Just think about the repellents they make for bears! Pepper sprays!

Bear has been removed, found a local guy with a homemade LIVE bear trap.Pretty cool made from a couple of 55 gallon oil drums. Set the trap 1/2 mile away and the bear has been relocated without involving officials.
Biggest varment I have ever had to deal with last year it was white flies. I was fortunate that a photo op did not arise for me.
