    fluorescent and lumens first grow

I moved my grow room under my basement stairs. I have a 4 fluorescent ballast mounted on the ceiling in a 4x6 wide and 5 1/2 feet tall room. I have 2 plants on a stool chair two inchs away from the lights. I think they are good with light. one plant has wide leaves may be indica and the other has sharp narrow leaves maybe sativa but they both only have 4 leaves. They are only 1 1/2 inch tall so no tall stems and they are only 5 days above ground. my question is I have 2 lights f40sp65 with 40w 6,500 color temp and over 2400 lumens thats a rating for 1 light but I have 2. the other two are 40w 5,000 color temp and like 2250 lumens. this is all blue spectrum lights right for veg? do I need plant ones with 1900 lumens for flowering for more red and blue? are my other lights good for veg? I will have pictures in a couple of days.

Blue for veg red for flower. But a mixture of the 2 work very well. For 2 plants you should be able to produce some smoke. I would move the lights further away for a couple weeks till there a good8 or 10 inches tall and then stick them as close as you can for the rest of veg and flower. With flouros the plants tend to want to stretch more so move them close during flower.

T-12 fluoro tubes (5000-6500k) are OK for the first 3 weeks...IMO.

    after that...you need a lot more light...T-5's & T-8's require a different special fixture...(and T-5's are $$$$)

Most peeps add CFLs...many as possible...but, HID is the way to go...

We use T12's to veg clones for 3 weeks.

BUT, the bigger the light the bigger the bud. A 400 hps or 600 would do nice but we like our 1000 HPS hortilux. They make a new BLUE that is full of red too. For veg and flower it's got more Red or Blue than any light out there. Can't wait to try one.

what kind of light?...fluoro tubes?...yes.. that will work though the veg cycle.
Most peeps veg several plants. Then, when the plants show their sex...they toss out the males....50% males is normal.
