Diethyl ether.

Take car battery and drain out concentrated sulfuric acid into galss bottle(note: the acid will have traces of lead a deadly poison).Add to your stillpot 5mL of ethanol and 5 mL of the concentrated H2SO4 acid(note the acid will dissolve metals such as copper a glass still pot will be necessary). Warm mixture until distillation takes place. slow add another 5 mL of ethanol at the same rate as the diethyl ether drips out of the condenser. Make sure you have your collection flask in a really cold ice bath and that there are no flames near the work area. Contnue heating until no more ether distills over. Wash the distillate with a baking soda solution in a homemade separatory funnel and then with water. Allow to stand in refrigerator with a few grains of ground calcium chloride (road salt) to dry. Redistill with ice bath and collect the fraction between 33 - 36C. continue process for long time to collect a decent quantity of diethyl ether.

Note diethyl ether was once used as a local anestetic, to test to see if your ether is high quality, sit down in flame free environment and inhale a ether soaked rag to see if you slip into unconciousness. Will not cause brain damage, but is still potentially dangerous.
