    problem with new light

I recently bought a 1000 watt MH with a bulb that the guy i bought it from said had 6 months already on it.

I had it running for about 4 days on a 12/12 cycle and then it blew my outlet from what i can comprehend.

That's not so much the problem as it is that after moving it to another outlet it turns on, i hear the buzzing but the light bulb doesn't light up. If i figet the cord i can see the bulb flicker but it never fires up.

I'm just looking to get information on a trouble shoot. Is the bulb dead or is the ballast broken?

I plan on just selling it because I'm not going to need that much power but this information would be helpful in the resell.

if you wiggle the cord and cord only and the bulb starts to flicker, it sounds like a short in the cord itself. would explain why it blew an outlet. WARNING!! Fire Hazard

It won't matter where you connect the black or white wire.. You just should make damn sure you connect the ground for sure..It goes on the green screw.

What type of light is it? Like an actual grow light MH or a MH that he nabbed off a building or something? If its an actual grow light than it wont be hard to replace the cord seeing as it plugs into the hood. If its a flood light that he got u, then just connect the colors, electricity is not hard, just understand it. If the colors are different, green is always ground, white is always positive, have fun.

If it is a magnetic ballast then you will have a capacitor.. That will hold a charge but not the ballast. Just keep metal and your fingers away from the capacitor..It's all wired in series so the only thing you have to worry about wiring is the plug!
