When I smoke, I can't breathe. Help?
Hi
So, I've only smoked marijuana a few times in my life. The first two times I never had this issue. Lately, when I smoke, it's like someone turned the 'mucus' knob in my head way to the left. As soon as I take one hit, my nose starts running like crazy, and my throat becomes really clogged. I cough, and cough, and cough and eventually, it goes away. I didn't worry about it too much until the last time I smoked - yesterday - and this time my throat actually became so clogged with mucus that it felt like it made a plug or a film in my throat and I wasn't getting any air. I breathed really deep and hard and felt air bust through my throat and I coughed a lot and took some breaths off my inhaler (asthma) and finally got my breath back, but had still lots of mucus and a weak feeling in my lungs through the next day.
I've tried to research this, but I can't find any similar stories or accounts of anything like this happening. Does anyone know what might be causing this and/or how to fix it?lieusee Reviewed by lieusee on . When I smoke, I can't breathe. Help? Hi So, I've only smoked marijuana a few times in my life. it sounds like you are either allergic to the pot or your body is just very very sensitive to the harsh smoke
i would recommend edibles or a vaporizer, if you still experience the problems i'd say it is an alergy, if not, you just might not be fit to be a smoker

I too have had this problem a couple of times.. just not as bad as you are describing yours. One because I am an asthmatic as well but the good news is that Marijuana has been proven to help most asthmatics and for personal experience I can say that it has, I haven't had to use my inhaler for over a year and a half!
Now back to your topic.. Sometime last month I was sitting around with my friend in the living room watching t.v., before that we had smoked and everything was fine.. While watching t.v. I started to notice I was having trouble breathing (Doesn't help for the fact that I smoke cigarettes) So what I did is I sat up straight and raised my arms above my head and put my arms across my head because when you do that it opens up your bronchial tubes and throat so there is more air flow. Another good thing to do while doing that is drink some high carbonated soda, the bubbles for some reason seem to help open up your chest passages so that more mucus get out and more air can get in. After I did all that I started breathing fine. Give that a try next time and keep your inhaler close by just in case anything is to happen. The second thing that happened in the same month everytime I'd smoke for some reason my nasal passages became very runny.. It came to me and I realized that the heat from the amount of smoke that a person inhales from marijuana opens up your nasal, throat, chest, and lungs (Which is why marijuana has been very useful for most asthmatic and allergenic people.. like myself) and I went along my way. For you there might have been a combination of that and allergies.. I hope this helps if not you might either want to stay away from the bud for a while or maybe consult a doctor about breathing/allergic problems and see if its a bodily change your going through.

When I smoke, I can't breathe. Help?
I have a friend who had been smoking pot for 15+ years. To this day, everytime he takes a hit...he coughs his lungs out. Some people just are naturally more prone to coughing than others...the mucus problem is something i am unfamiliar with though...
i agree that it may be an allergy..or you may just be high and paranoideither way..good luck!

Well, sounds to me like you are developing the early allergy defenses. I suggest you stop using in any form before you have an anaphaylactic reaction which could kill you. You already are under treatment for asthma. Time to knock it off...sorry to say.
