ting ting street lights can be your worst enemy in a garden
i have seen pictures of plants were 1 side had darkness and went into 12/12 cycle naturally and the otherside of the plant stayed in vegative growth without budding at all all due to a street light .
i would say keeping total darkness is a must even if its the security light its worth making sure it does not light up your plant.

the top of the plant will sort itself out with the next fw days of light.
i was told once to keep pinching the top of the plant encouraging it to grow outwards and not up anymore but i would get more advice about that before you start picking
