Hermie problems!
Hey all, I am having a problem with my girls turning hermie. I grow in a closet and have 2 chambers one for veg and one for flower. i have been in the top chamber several times to look for light leaks and yesterday noticed that the 6" dryer ducting that runs through the flower chamber (venting for veg chamber) had a very very small light leak, hardly noticeable, i fixed that by wrapping the tube with black fabric several times all the way up. Now with a flashlight shining up it i cant see any light coming from the tube, i cant see any light anywhere else. Is there anything else that i am overlooking that could be causing this? i will post pictures of my chamber later when the lights turn on. Any input is appreciated!

Not just light leaks cause herms. Make sure your temp is b/w 72-82F and that your plants aren't stressed from too much nutrient- purple veining on stems and burning leaves.

genetics play a large part, in influencing hermaphrodites ... are they so-called 'feminized seeds', by chance ? ... (they're notorious for switching sex) ... :smokin:

Hermie problems!
thanks for the replys. No they are not feminized seeds and not the first strain i have had problems with. My temps right now are above normal, about 85 but its also 115 outside so its as good as i can do with a 600 watt light in there. i am going to finish these and hope for the best on the next set, hopefully i have eliminated all of the light leaks. I am going to finish these out and then start some clones i have from them, i hope they dont turn out the same way.

Hot, humid and stagnant air causes stress as well. Do you have adequate ventilation and circulation? Does it seem stuffy in the flower chamber when you check on 'em?
Proper ventilation, proper soil hydration (possible daily waterings with properly ph'd water if necessary) and for me, cutting nutes in half and feeding that twice a week, instead of one full dose weekly...as it seems to lessen heat stress. I never never foliar feed unless to correct a deffeciency, and never when it's hot, and never do I spray to hydrate. I let the roots take care of that stuff.
If heat is the issue, perhaps reading the link in my signature. (Dealing with heat issues)

Thanks for replying rusty, i was hoping you would as we linve in the same climate. I dont think its to hot or stuffy in there, i have a 6" vortex venting the chamber, and i have a fan circulating air in there as well. i have never seen any signs of heat stress. i have ac venting in there as well so the temps are in the 85 range. i am really hoping that it was the small light leak i had, other than that i have no idea what it could be.

Hermie problems!
Some of the stressors include, but not limited to:
Inconsistent lighting. (not on a timer)
Light leaks.
Overwatering. (root rot)
Cold at night, hot during day. (extreme temperature fluctuations)
Underfertilization, overferting.
Too many additives.
Unnecessary spraying.
Bad soil. (compacted, over-used, uncomposted, too fine of a consistency...)
Bad water conditions. (from the nuclear waste pond or a chlorine factory for instance)
ph fluctations.
Pulling-off fan leaves or overpruning.
Wrong light spectrums.
Insects.
High humidity. (mold)
Hormones/steroids or chemical treatments...
Could be one, could be more than one.
