Question about underground Bug

I had one plant that a bug ate the stalk and roots
1/2 inch under soil top. Picked plant straight up Dead
no bottom. Any Ideals what the pest is?

Never seen it before. They didn't eat any of the upper folaige?

No Sir, just the stem It was around 1/4 inch dia. and 1/2 in. under
top soil.
