plant in trouble!! save the weed!!
ok so this is my first plant. It was given to me and the person that had it was putting some nasty fertilizing shit in the plant that was attracting flys and nats. I brought the plant inside b/c of all the bugs around it. it got so bad that I had to transplant it in to a new pot w/ new dirt. I dug the plant out and got out as much of the old dirt as possible to get rid of all the bugs. I put new dirt in the new pot (scotts potting soil) and followed the instructions on the back of the bag for transplanting. It has now been a week or so and the bottom leaves are slowly turning yellow and falling off. what can I do to preserve my plant. it is about 1 1/2 ft tall.

Likely it's transplant shock. But once she get's used to the fresh soil and the nutrients in it, she should start to show new growth within the week, unless during the transplant you dropped her or broke shitloads of roots.
Says 4 months of feeding on the bag doesn't it? So no additional nutrients till the nutrients in the soil have been exhausted. In reality, it only takes a month or so to deplete the existing nutrients.
If planning on this being a successful venture, you're going to need proper nutrients, proper lighting and a way to check water ph....for starters.

I didn't drop it and I was very careful not break to many roots. so I should start fertilizing in about a month or so? even though there are yellowing leaves that are near the bottom I am still getting new leaves on top. I have about 8 new leaves that are comming out. should I cut the yellowing leaves off so as to not waste nutrients on leaves that are dying?

I'd say it's the light causing the leaves to turn yellow and fall off. A buddy of mine had a couple of plants he was growing in the window. He had them in one window in the morning, then was moving them to a window on the other side of the house for evening sun. Even with moving them, they were still strecthing and the bottom leaves were turning yellow and falling off. He went and bought some lights, problem fixed.

Could be adjusting to the different lighting, but I'd think the tops would show the stress too, were it only the light.
Doubtful it's ph, as you are using fresh soil, right? But I'm guessing you can find your local water ph online, to see if your tapwater is within cannabis range. Tiz an important number to know.
Did you fertilize it before just before or just after the transplant?
I would let the leaves do what they want to do, and remove the clutter as it falls off. (bugs multiply under the leaves that are sitting on the soil)
Are you letting the soil dry between waterings?
What size pot is the 18" plant in now?

ok I measured the plant and it is 15 inches tall. i didn't fertilize it before b/c I knew i was putting it in some good dirt that said don't fertlize till 4 months after.
I'm working on finding out the ph levels. where should I put my plant if s going to be an indoor plant? I dont want to buy lights tho
