those roots look horrible, maybe you have some kind of bacteria in there that is creating the bubbles and giving you root rot? just a wild guess....try adding a capful of hydrogen peroxide to your reservoir to keep bacteria to a minimum

Not that this is the cause, but have you heard about the HydroHut outgassing problems from last year? (how old is yours, and are you the first owner?)

I have never grown hydro before but im quite sure that well water isn't good to use in a res because you can't be sure what is in it such as calcium levels etc. (I think)

well you got bubbles alright and slime on your roots.

I saw this and built one myself. It is a combo, bubble and drip. The whole problem is the drip side of it. Mine didn't get root rot at first it started fine and then the plants just stayed small. After a few weeks of nothing the roots started to rot and the project was scrapped.

On taking it all apart I found that the drip line going into the bottom of the netpots were clogged with the water roots and stopping the flow of water but just enough to keep the plants alive in bonsai manner. I tried this to keep the drip contained under the lid to prevent spills. The roots grew about 4 inches up into the drip lines.

I think this would work if the drip lines were taken into the top of netpots and put on a timer. Like most drip systems.

Move the drip lines to the top of the net pot and get some better nutes, some R/O water and some calmag. Every thing else sounds good. You will have success with minor changes. It's the learning curve. Or just go with the bubbler and not the drip.
